Times and Winds Reya Erdem 2006 | Turkey
Hugely disappointing. In fact, quite awful.
Some nice compositions (which would have looked even better had I seen a print and not digital), but seriously and fatally lacking in dramatic purpose. Is it supposed to be a quiet, observational film, like Ceylan's Clouds of May or Small Town? Or is it supposed to have more direction and umph to it, as implied by the late-in-the-day hysteria? Either way, it was a slack failure.
I found its artsy pretensions annoying, too: the music is beautiful in itself, but relied on too heavily (the same motif accompanies almost every scene-to-scene transition); and those recurring shots of the kids lying mysteriously in weeds and shrubbery couldn't have screamed "distinct style!" more. As it is, I found them lacking meaning or significance; not enough was made of it, and I was unable to find allegorical worth too.

Definitely not, though if it means anything, I'd easily choose to sit through those again over this one.

Nah it means nothing Capo, grandiose without anything behind it. I was disappointed with it too and second everything in that review.
