Mary, Queen of Scots is beheaded before a gathering of knights.
Incredible early short film, a step away from simply documenting reality to staging reality before the camera… it is a period piece, a costume piece, and if the narrative is still more an incident than a weaving together of events, what an incident it is. The cut to shots between an actress and a dummy is easily noticed on a second viewing, but it is quick and subtle enough to impress mightily on a first viewing.
