L'arrivée d'un train à La Ciotat Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Louis Lumière / August Lumière 1895 France Passengers stand on a platform as a train nears the station. A step forward as regards framing techniques. This isn't just another event captured in a point-and-shoot method, but is evidence of the Lumières' realisation that Cinema could do more than film reality, but be painterly in the process. The composition has two halves: the track (and the train on it) moves from right to left, from back to front, while the would-be passengers stand still on the right looking at the train in anticipation. The compositon is frequently repeated hereafter (it has a striking resemblance to the opening of Cronenberg's Spider).
