Filmed from above, or at least from land, this is a self-contained shot of uncontrolled motion, of nature at work, and of what would later become a means of cinematic symbolism: waves crashing were linked closely to passion, love and eroticism… one thinks when watching this of Stewart and Novak's first kiss in Vertigo.
