Dial M for Murder
Alfred Hitchcock
English 1954 A jealous man arranges to kill his wife. This is one of those Hitchcock movies that rely heavily on suspense and a tight plot. I don't know what wetdog meant by 3D effects, but I could find none of his trademark technical brilliance here. It is greatly entertaining though, even if only for the duration of the movie.

OK, I just about it on IMDB and realized that it was shot in 3D and was probably meant to be seen in 3D theaters

Dial M for Murder Alfred Hitchcock 1954 | USA An ex-Tennis champion plots with an old friend to murder his wife, but his plan goes wrong and he has to backfoot… One setting, essentially, and a thriller told in two halves, the first constructing "the perfect crime" and the second re-constructing it, or deconstructing it, as a plausible work of fiction. The first half works best because everything is meticulous and convincing; the second half is interesting for its self-reflexivity, but lacks conviction and seems a rather unnecessary way to save Grace Kelly, since the cop who solves the case has no purpose or reason to do so.

This film went quickly from conception to completion while Rear Window was undergoing pre-production, so it seems to have served as a dry run for the single-set experiment, and Hitchcock decided to dabble in 3D, because why not... The film's basically a doodle. That it's so enjoyable is really just a testament to Hitchcock's talents. OK, I just about it on IMDB and realized that it was shot in 3D and was probably meant to be seen in 3D theaters There are a bunch of shots that have some object gratuitously poking toward the lens. The coup de grace 3D moment is on the one-sheet:

"since the cop who solves the case has no purpose or reason to do so."
Err, he's payed to do just that. It's his job, he doesn't need any futher motivation.
