The Descent Neil Marshall UK 2005 A group of female friends go on an annual hiking trip, venturing down an uncharted cave, and find the whole place inhabited by monsters. Marshall follows up Dog Soldiers with another dud which starts off promising (the car crash is brilliantly filmed, perfectly shocking), but escalates into silliness. The script is horrid; though early on, with the characters exploring the caves, there is a certain terror looming, from claustrophobic, dark close-ups. Had Marshall stuck with this, instead of bringing out all these monsters, it might have been decent.

"The fear of expectation, as Hitchcock might have said once, far outweighs the fear of knowing."
I agree very much with this, Capo. Overall, I liked The Descent. But I think I will always remember it as the movie where that one guy screamed.
In my theater, about 5 rows ahead of me and 15 seats to my right, there was a group of 20-something year old guys. And when they first showed the creature, one of those guys screamed like a overly flamboyant 7 year old girl seeing a mouse. Unbelievable. If you've seen the movie, you know that this particular scene is not that frightening. The whole audience laughed, and I tried to hold back, in respect because of my friend sitting next to me, but for the next 15 minutes, I would periodically shake out of surpressing the laughter. I still tell this story to people.
