25th Hour Spike Lee 2002 USA A drugs dealer spends his last day with friends before starting a seven-year prison sentence. A drama and/or character study which has its moments. Norton's performance is solid, about as good as we have come to expect from him, and the chemistry he strikes up with his onscreen friends lends plausibility to an otherwise preachy plot. It has a strikingly clean look, which seems to run contrary to the grittiness of the message or what you might expect aesthetically. It runs too long for what it contains.

I agree with that proview almost word for word. The preachy plot you mention is what really hurts it for me. Do the Right Thing, Lee's best movie, shows the viewer a bunch of events throughout a day and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. From this, the movie draws much of its power in my mind. It was sad to see him go away from this, most noteably in the "fuck you" speech
