Uchida Tomu(1898 - 1970)Little known Japanese director who starting working around the same time as Naruse and Ozu, but out lived them both. Not a master film-maker like them, but still worth checking out if his stuff is findable! I was lucky enough to catch this during a retrospective at the local film festival a few years ago, i think they played 2 or 3 others, but i missed them. 1. Yoshiwara: The Pleasure Quarter (1960) 7/102. Chikamatsu's Love in Osaka (1959) 7/103. A Bloody Spear on Mount Fuji (1955) 6/10

Generally in this section, no stars means zero/terrible.

Fugitive From the Past is 65, and even though there are some plot holes, it can largely be ignored, because the film is generally a masterpiece. I liked it much more than Bloody Spear on Mt. Fuji. I wish that I could have seen more of the films that were brought here (Toronto), but the one that looks the most interesting, Earth, wasn't shown.
