Lisandro Alonso(1975 - )I can't think of a more promising film-maker to have emerged this decade. Wish someone would release his first film somewhere! 1. Los Muertos (2004) 9/102. Fantasma (2006) 8/10

All of his films except Liverpool are available on DVD from Malba. I don't know if this is an online store, but it comes up first googling "lisandro alonso dvd malba." They are reported to have English subtitles. Malba also put another New Crowned Hope film Paraguayan Hammock which sounds so minimalist and sounds like my kind of thing. They also put out a Martin Rejtman set last year. I keep an eye out for Argentine cinema because of Lucrecia Martel, Pablo Trapero, Adrian Caetano, Eliseo Subiela, and to a lesser extent, Daniel Burman. I've yet to see a Rejtman film. Older Argentine films I've seen were quite good, too.

Excellent Kino thanks, i'll check it out!
I've see Paraguayan Hammock and visually it is THE most minimal (?) film i've ever seen, it's all about the sound and distant memories through dialogue that's not spoken onscreen etc etc, it's not a masterpiece like Los Muertos, but it is a good film and well worth everybody checking out for an approach i've never seen before. Definitely a director to watch too!
I can understand completely what Alonso means by the size of a computer screen, but it's also the quality of the download, i don't understand how people can be getting a decent cinematic experience from watching pixelated downloads? Why spend so much time and effort creating beautiful visuals when people are dumbing them down on a computer? Maybe it's the photographer in me wanting the purest images possible!
