Biography
Mark L. Lester has worked as a writer, producer, and director on many high-profile, action films over his long career. His first film was the relatively unknown, yet critically acclaimed Twilight of the Mayas (1971), a documentary which took top honors at the Venice Film Festival. But it wasn't until the Linda Blair vehicle Roller Boogie (1979) that Lester really came into the spotlight. Before Boogie, Lester had worked on many cult favorite films, such as Stunts (1977), Steel Arena (1973), and Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw (1976). Lester really became a star when he made the loved Class of 1984 (1982), which still carries a huge fan base and provides a still chilling vision of the school system that has now became real. He also made Commando (1985), an Arnold Schwarzenegger action film that became a huge hit, grossing over $120 million worldwide. In this time period he also made Armed and Dangerous starring Meg Ryan and the late John Candy.
After his success, Mark Lester married Dana Dubovsky, whom he now works with and had two children, Jason and Justin. He also founded American World Pictures, and independent production and distribution company. In recent years, he has made many films, ranging from action films like The Base (1999) (V) to thrillers like Blowback (2000) and Hitman's Run (1999). He continues to direct and distribute numerous films and remains dedicated to his craft. Most recently he directed Pterodactyl (2005) for the Sci/Fi Channel. - IMDB.com
