Raj Kapoor(1924 - 1988)Another one of the original Bollywoodists, i slightly preferred these films to the Khan ones as the songs are not quite as focused on. Obviously inspired by Chaplin and very close to his political and aesthetic sensibilities. 1. Awaara (1951) 7/102. Mr. 420 (1955) 6/10

Shri 420 More than anything, this is a moral tale and it has a lot of appealing points. I love the songs in this film. Seen parts of Mera naam Joker, Satyam shivam Sundaram and Ram teri ganga maili, but not fully to give ratings. All mediocre. He is considered more of an actor than a director in India. An annoying actor (his Chapalinesque manner is totally out of place in the Indian setting). As a producer he made a lot of bold movies in terms of skin display, which was new in the prudish Bollywood world. I would partly blame the success of his films for the current sensibilities of Bollywood, which moved away from content towards, predominantly, fluff.
