If you're down for some more very good small American films, check out Shotgun Stories. I second this. (I wonder if this is eligible).

Curious if The Band's Visit is eligible. I really liked it. It's a lovely film. Elkabetz and Gabai will most likely be on my ballot. I think it should be eligible for the following reasons based on IMDb info: 1) festival screening in the U.K., no theatrical run (limited or wide) 2) limited theatrical run in the U.S. in 2008 3) no one nominated it in any category for last year's awards

They were both great in that movie.
The guy I really liked was Haled. You know how Bill Murray went from goofball to Mr. Lost in Translation and Wes Anderson? If Norm MacDonald did that, you'd have the guy playing Haled. That scene in the skating rink is exceptional.

Also, I forgot to nominate RAMBO for Best Action Sequence:
Come on, that shit has gotta be nominated.

you really need to see Role Models. Easily one of the years best action sequences in that one.

How do people feel about these categories:
Best Film Best Comedy Film <<< new category Best Direction Best Action Direction <<< new category Best Cinematography Best Editing Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Performance by a Male in a Leading Role Best Performance by a Female in a Leading Role Best Performance by a Male in a Supporting Role Best Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role Best Sound Design Best Production Design Best Costume or Make-up Design <<< two of last year's categories combined Best Visual Effects Best Original Score Best Mise-en-scène Best Artistic Achievement Worst Film Retrospective 2007: Best Film
Any thoughts on Capo's "Best Title Sequence" category?

I would venture to say that it should be Best Comedy/Musical/Action film or something to that effect. Isnt it just a category to recognize the best among the "nonserious art"?
not to start that arguement again ;D
best title sequence would be fun, although I rarely remember the majority of them. The only one I see visibily is the ridiculous one from Righteous Kill. Its very funny. Al and Bob are in the shooting range with their pistols, then they are bench pressing together in the police gym, then the montage ends by them going back to the shooting range and using machine guns. High comedy.

hi guys. as every year, I'm fashionable late but never the less present just in time to participate in the FCM awards. ooh I still remember our very first "ceremony", immediately resulting in a tie-breaker between Lost in Translation (which won after a second round of voting) and Return of the King...
I'm not sure how this years winners will turn out, since this awardseasons seems quite uninspired (meaning that most categories have one set winner at most ceremonies, it seems), but maybe we can change things. I'm sure it will get noticed.
like last year, I'd like to propose a "best ensemble cast" (in SAG terms: "best performance by a cast") category. but even more so, I'd like a clear definition of the "best artistic achievement" category, since I'm never quite sure what to look for.
title sequences are usually on YouTube, I think, if you need a reminder...
looking forward to the whole nominating process, even though the 28th february deadline is quite soon - but I'll be able to see most important contenders in time I'm sure.

I'm with Pherdy on BEST ENSEMBLE CAST as a new category.
Also, how about this as a new category too....
Most Badass Movie Moment
Exactly as it sounds.

We can't really do 'moments' or 'sequences', because the terms are too ambiguous and there could be a half-dozen nominations from a single film, which all bleed into eachother (which is why "Best Action Direction" makes more sense than "Best Action Sequence").

Welcome back Pherdy. Okay, a "Best Ensemble Cast" award, but awarded to the film, not to the cast (since, again, 'ensemble' is too vague to apply within a film). Kind of the point of the "Best Artistic Achievement" is that it's not clearly defined, it's meant to be open and allow people to bring their own values and their own understanding of what constitutes an artistic achievement to it. I like that category (yeah, I know it's kind of a mirror image of the "Best Film" category in effect, but it's subtly different too I think, in that it doesn't have to be, and you can award a film on the basis of one of its qualities as opposed to the whole if you like). I'm with Jrod in that I won't be able to remember more than a few of the title sequences. But fuck it, let's throw it in and see what happens. Let's go crazy.

Just define 'comedy' broadly. There aren't exactly many non-comedic musicals made these days. This category gives animated movies a good chance too. I think just leave the action genre to recognition of the director.

How about Best Feature-Length Debut? Give some of the promising talents some shine. It's more exact than Best Breakthrough which could possibly lead to little agreement as to which film was the breakthrough for a director.

best debut seems fine too. but if we get too many categories, should there ever be one removed, I'd say the sound category is the first to be reconsidered. maybe include sound with some other technical category (although I realize we already included both sound design and sound editing into one). do we care enough about trailers to give it a separate category? Pherdy, you never cease to amaze me. It's what I do.

I think trailers should go.
I mean, what remarkable trailers were there last year?
