Omar, you picked up the DVD? Wondering what you think of the special features. Haven't checked them out myself. It crossed my mind today, but I'm too damn busy finishing up finals and work. Alas, only about 13 more hours. I plan on picking it up at the end of the week though. I read someone's reactions to the special features, and they only spoke strongly of the commentary. I can not wait to watch this again.

This film seems to want to reject the conventions of a typical biopic, but simple non-linearity and fictional reconstruction of events that actually occured isn't nearly enough to do this. The storylines still play out in a typical melodramatic fashion, and the entire idea of Dylan encompassing a number of identities is executed in such an obvious, literal manner I can't possibly take it seriously. Was Richard Gere's monologue on the train towards the end really necessary? Much like the black and white prologues in Magnolia, it explicitly informs us what the film is about. I really enjoyed the party scene where Blanchett trips out and the images of a spider and Dylan's other identities are projected across the wall, but that's about where it ends. The acting was stale, the reconstruction of Dylan's life and the documentaryesque interviews were hilariously corny and immature, and the entire thing just failed to connect with me.
