Today I won a VHS copy of Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, by winning a quiz in Media. I always take them on the film rounds. The VHS wasn't even re-wound. And, furthermore, it was a major letdown, as one of the answers on the "Name the film from the picture" round was Meet Me in St. Louis, which I got through guesswork (having not seen it). Impressed by the answer, the teacher told me that was the prize, wrapped up. By coincidence, the same film was on TV today, but I didn't record it as I was taping King Kong instead. Imagine my sarcastic delight to find Mr. Kreuger staring right at me when I unwrapped my prize.

That's a good film. As good as the first, easily. I actually prefer it.

Another deal for a pound: Spider-Man 2, which I haven't seen.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street is way the best in my opinion. & Freddy vs Jason is suprisingly not as bad as you would think!
& I love Spider-Man 2. Not sure which of the two are better, but Alfred Molina is great in it.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street is way the best in my opinion. & Freddy vs Jason is suprisingly not as bad as you would think! Dream Warriors has more imaginative murders than the first, I think. The muscle-puppet death is brilliant. And I enjoyed the further exposition of Krueger's history, as the "bastard son of a hundred lunatics." It's a fun movie, and easily the best sequel. The wretched second entry has no reason to exist at all. The fourth has approximately the same amount of visual imagination as the third, if I recall - the waterbed and the comic book - but has no narrative momentum to carry it. The story is three films long. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dream Warriors and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. The rest are basically filler. And I prefer Freddy as a smartass antihero than as a boogeyman. He was never even slightly unsettling, so he's best made a joke of.

I was hoping for Batman Begins and No Direction Home, but didn't get them. I'll probably order season 4 of Seinfeld this week.

I'd agreed not to write a list of films this year; most of the ones I want can be found in the post-Christmas sales at much more rewarding prices. Instead, I got, as well as clothes and other bits and bobs, the money for films, and these surprises... on DVD: on VHS: And off my sister, on DVD: With my money, I intend on buying Gerry and Elephant for definite, and then Dead Man's Shoes, Eternal Sunshine, and others.

Close to or over 400. I'm not sure because I have a lot to add to my DVD Profile.
