I'll be interested to see what you think of Phantasm. It's tragically underrated - a brilliantly inventive, unconstrained, original film.

Halliwell's guide says it has "nothing of merit except for the power to frighten." Bit of a paradox, really. I didn't know the director was 20 (?) when he made it.

23, I think, on a shoestring budget. I'm more impressed every time I watch it.
Raimi was 20 when he made The Evil Dead, though. That's just discouraging. ;D

Did they have to put Hoffman behind Voigt? I mean, isn't the poor guy small enough?

Glad I'm not the only one who has to laugh when I see that cover.

One of the best of the 70's and one of the best of the 90's. ;D

I only purchase the best. I haven't seen either of them, actually. I can't wait to watch 'em, especially Dead Man.

Yeah, Ebert pissed me off with his very poor review of Dead Man, which really lacks any strong criticism. I recall he described Neil Young's score as "sounding like he was dropping his guitar over and over," because a score must be radio-friendly!

Vercetti, I just wanted to say that you have the single greatest avatar and quote in the history of message boards. That's my favorite part of the movie. Chills ran down my spine when I saw it.

My favorite as well, especially with Young's music as the bodies fall.

God, that DVD art is repulsive. That's even worse than the ones they were juggling a few months ago. I just bought it, too. Thankfully, we got a slightly better, 'shadowy ass-chin' compostion.
