I've seen my share of Woody Allen films. I think it's safe to say I'm probably his biggest fan here. I've never seen a film of his that I didn't want to watch again. They all have a certain unique charm, there's just some that deal with issues far greater. I can't wait for Match Point.

An article in this week's Radio Times about Allen has him quoted as saying if he had to use a word to sum up his own life, he'd use "sad". It was basically a really pessimistic article. It wasn't even cynicism in an intellectual way, like a Godard article might be, but just a really lamentable read. I didn't know until reading the article that Allen doesn't consider Manhattan and Hannah and Her Sisters good films.

Yeah, Allen feels his new film is poor, although I think it's for the wrong reasons, since he said it's because of poor box office performance. A lot of great films bomb at the theaters.

Yeah I was surprised when I read that he hated Manhattan. Also disappointed. I hate when directors are over critical of themselves.

Don't know about Manhattan but I'm surprised about Hannah and Her Sisters. Out of the two I've seen of his, it's his most optimistic.
Or should I be surprised?

Annie Hall Manhattan Crimes and Misdemeanors Mighty Arpodite The Purple Rose of Cairo havent seen as much woody allen movies as Id like to. Even though he didnt direct it, I really like the film Play it Again, Sam, which he wrote and starred in.

I just realized that I didnt have my favorite Allen picture on here. Dont know how I left it out Hannah and Her Sisters This is in the top 50 of my personal top 100, with Match Point and Annie Hall below it. I think Hannah and Her Sisters and Annie Hall are among my favorites because they deal with the same issues as most Allen movies, but are generally a whole lot happier. Even though Alvy Singer fails, he isnt depressed as hell in the end (he still wants the eggs). I like Manhattan and Crimes and Misdeameanors as well, but just not nearly as much. His tradgedy films are his most artistic work, just not as much my think. I suppose the reason I like Match Point better is because Im a sucker for suspense, and Scarlett

Woody's films that I've seen. I refuse to put stars next to a film because I really can't concretely give a film a rating because many films appeal to me in different ways and I haven't figured out how to rate them . In reverse chronological order: Scoop (2006) Match Point (2005) Small Time Crooks (2000) Deconstructing Harry (1997) Husbands and Wives (1992) Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) Stardust Memories (1980) Manhattan (1979) Annie Hall (1977) Love and Death (1975) Sleeper (1973) Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972)

I enjoyed it a lot. Woody is still funny . My friends said not as good as Match Point but I won't compare the two because of difference in genres. Although it's still a very good picture and worth seeing.
