And god that scene where Ferdinand and Marriane attempt to entertain the Americans with their play gives me the best kind of diarrhea. It's so wonderfully edited, and Belmondo's voice brings massive lols.

I think Tout va bien further cements (or re-cements) his name to the tag "favourite director", for me.

I meant zero stars. Sorry for being cryptic.

Ah. But zero stars for you means masterpiece, right?

Zero stars means that it is so special that it cannot be measured in stars

Streams, without subtitles, of Godard and Miéville's films can be found here. And the Dziga Vertov group's work here.

Here's a blog entry by David Bordwell on Godard, aspect ratios, and framing. Really interesting stuff.

Fascinating stuff, thanks. Your thoughts on Godard, bobby?

I've been thinking about Godard's films lately, for some reason, and I've been comparing them with other films that I like from other filmmakers I admire, and concluded that Godard is on a totally totally different level from every other filmmaker who's ever lived. I actually think it might be unfair to talk about him in relation to other artists. I'm not being self-consciously hyperbolic or taking the piss here, I'm speaking truthfully.
If Godard is a 10.0 filmmaker, then the second best filmmaker, let's say Andrei Tarkovsky, can only be like a 6.8 or something. There's that much of a difference to me.

How can a guy make a film like Vivre sa Vie then turn around and make a film like Pierrot le Fou? That's like being Michael Jordan and Babe Ruth at the same time.
I can't wrap my head around the sheer brilliance.

Godard directed the trailer for this year's Vienna International Film Festival. You can watch it on the Festival website (click the lower-left link).
