I just got the chance to see "A Clockwork Orange" on the big screen the other day at the University of Miami. Truly a feast. Kubrick's films are among the greatest ever made. Period.
1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb (1964) * * * * * 2. 2001: a space odyssey (1968) * * * * * 3. A Clockwork Orange (1971) * * * * * 4. Full Metal Jacket (1987) * * * * * 5. Eyes Wide Shut (1999) * * * * 1/2
He may not have been quite prolific, but the level to detail and his meticulous nature helps to create true worlds. No one could create a world like Kubrick. His seemingly infinite knowledge on all the topics his films focus on is unbelivable.

Again, continuing from Olmi thread. I caught a glimpse of Barry Lyndon in Scorcese's documentary on American Cinema "A personal journey.....". I was mesmerized just with that small snippet. I can't wait to watch it.

One of the best directors on so many different levels.
And his final masterpiece, Eyes Wide Shut, is one of the best interpretations of 'Illuminatus' culture I've ever seen - and I've seen a bit.

I don't remember where I was the day he died, but I remember the days following, it being all over the media, plus "Eyes Wide Shut" was very controversial right at the same time.

I remembered EWS as being the Tom/Nicole show, and the tabloids obsessing over that "sex scene," and then they were pissed when the movie wasn't the porno or whatever they were expecting. But at least with that new EWS DVD, we Americans got his actual cut finally.

A Clockwork Orange The Shining Full Metal Jacket Eyes Wide Shut The Killing Suspenseful and gripping, like a Hitchcockian thriller, but not quite impacting. I liked the non linear plot, but compared to today's non-linear films, the structure is quite tame (due to the explicit narration).
