Le Samourai Not one of my favorites, as it is to the majority of the people here, but it is still really damn good

In all honesty, that's probably the type of film I'd love to make if I ever became a director, which is probably why I love Scorsese, Mann, and Melville's films so much.

Updated with Le Doulos. Hard to decide which is better, Le Doulos or Un Flic.
Oddly, his films are interesting me more then Godard's, though I still need to venture more into him. Did anyone else love Melville's small role in Breathless?

Did anyone else love Melville's small role in Breathless? I loved it. I also loved the references to "Bob le Flambeur".

Red Circle - I watched it again for the nth time and loved it as always. Though I would like to better understand my attraction to this film, I am content with my connection/response to this film, just based on the stimulus the film provides. Also a turning point in my film appreciation preferences, though not something previously unvisited.

What do you mean by this? It sounds very interesting, but I want to know what you mean.

I was consciously moving towards films that stimulated me at an intellectual level and (in spite of obvious liking) relegating some other excellent films to a subordinate position because I was connecting to them at a non-intellectual level. For instance when I went about rating some films I liked, I would probably reduce a star because I was asking questions like (but not limited to) "what does this film say new about life" and would not get a satisfactory answer. There is an obvious flaw in such an approach, because I was somehow assigning a wrong goal to all films to achieve. Why should films be restricted to intellectual domain? That would be a very restrictive and narrow view of what this medium has to offer. I now want to embrace all films I like, without harping over arbitrary metrics to judge them. That way, I'll have a much fuller, richer and satisfactory experience of films and appreciate how wonderfully this medium can affect me personally.
