Ya, glad someone finally made a thread for Lumet, who finally won that Oscar last year. That montage of all his movies really opened me up as a major film fan. I mean, PRINCE OF THE CITY! Talk about a picture that needs to be on DVD.
12 ANGRY MEN (1957) - Masterpiece - ***** FAIL SAFE (1964) - **** SERPICO (1973) - ***1/2 DOG DAY AFTERNOON (1975) - Masterpiece - ***** NETWORK (1976) - Masterpiece - ***** PRINCE OF THE CITY (1981) - ****1/2 (Must be on DVD dammit!)

"12 Angry Men" of course is extremely worthwhile, indicative even early on of Lumet's skill of placing the right actors in exactly the right roles, Fonda is, well, Fonda, and despite it obviously being intended as a vehicle for him, the same care was taken with the rest of the casting too, Lee J Cobb, Ed Begley and E G Marshall especially.
If one is allowed to make a general suggestion for viewing, it would be his British produced 1965 film "The Hill"

If one is allowed to make a general suggestion for viewing, it would be his British produced 1965 film "The Hill" I've also had Fail Safe recommended to me as his best film. I'd like to see more than those, though.
