I'm a little disappointed. Kurosawa's 1944 film, "The Most Beautiful", broke half way through. It was in really bad condition, plus I'm not sure the DVD itself was legit. Damn it.
And unfortunately, the four other film's Netflix offers from Kurosawa that he made before 1950 all look to be in the same shape.
Looks like I might have to skip the big bulk that made up the beginning of his career.

Did you try reporting problems with the discs and asking for different copies to be shipped?

Did you try reporting problems with the discs and asking for different copies to be shipped? Not this time, but I've done it before. In fact, I've done it a lot.

Who's to say it will work this time? When I was at home I watched my Netflix DVDs on a great player, one that was not sensitive to scratches. But now in college, I am either watching them on this old PC, or on a little portable DVD player. So, I don't have the patience to wait. Plus, I saw about 80% of the film, and it wasn't very good. It's obvious that Kurosawa was making a propaganda film. It's situations were at times ridiculous, and the film was visually uninteresting.

A lot of fun, which means I am almost always doing something. And now that classes have officially started, I'm even more busy.

I am going through Kurosawa's filmography right now (next is "Dersu Uzala"). Out of the rewatches, "Throne of Blood" has been the most satisfying up to this point. Out of the first time viewings, I enjoyed "Hidden Fortress" the most.
