1. Taxidi sta Kithira (1984) 2. Topio stin omichli (1988) I have Eternity and A Day and The Weeping Meadow ready to watch. He makes my kind of films. Quiet, contemplative, very slight narratives, almost entirely visual based, reflective and ambiguous. Like Tsai ming-liang, if the rest of his filmography keeps at the same high level of the two films above, I've no doubt he'll become a personal favourite.

I've been told that he's the best at creating a dream-like atmosphere, and dream-like scenarios. If so, I have a feeling he'd become one of my favorites.

You were right about the dreamlike atmosphere he creates throughout, it was especially apparent when Eleni tried to run away and was dancing with the sailors at the pier.

Yup...and when they arrive back in the village off the row boat and there's the most amazing tracking shot up to and then cut through the fire and we follow and we follow to the sheep in the trees and we move up and we move down and away and towards, examining the visual material in a way NOBODY ever has.......(and the blood)......all in 2 shots....genius.....absolute genius! My mind is shivering just from the memory......and i haven't seen it for 2 years......it makes me wonder if my eyes have ever been forced open that wide by a scene before or since! The Malaysian floating bed of course?! ?

I've got Ulysses' Gaze ready to watch. Is it as visually stunning as The Weeping Meadow?

Not quite.....but then which film is? Keitel's a bit stilted in it, struggles with the language, but the mood as usual is thick and engrossing, the music is the most moving in any of his films....anyway, won't ruin it for ya!

I showed The Weeping Meadow to my girlfriend a couple nights ago, and she cried so hard at the final scene she started coughing uncontrollably.
Best movie ever. EVER.
