I think we just mean in order to allow the films to rest with you before moving onto the next one.....not sucking up all the Tsai experience at once.....

I went against my promise to myself to watch them in chronological order, and went for the one I felt would have the greatest emotional impact. I was a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps I should've taken Anasazie's advice and went with The River.

Yea but Anasazie and RNL like that one the most. Anyway it doesn't really matter that much what order you watch them. I think the latest is the most optimistic but, it didn't quite move me as much either, not as cathartic a response for me. It's still great though.

I don't see the point in watching someone's films in order. What is it supposed to be, a narrative of their personal artistic development? Auteurism run amok, that.

Seriously, I can't grasp why you would even ask that question. Isn't it obvious?

Yeah, it's obviously auteurism run amok. The psychoanalysis of the author via the artwork.

Finally saw all of the big 4. I must say, I Don't Want to Sleep Alone is quite easily the dullest and least imaginative of them all.

I thought so too but it's still great, wouldn't exactly use the word dull.

Yeah it's not dull, but it's clearly inferior to the other 3.
