I don't know man, it all just became so routine and mandatory for me after a while. I felt like I was just watching movies to be able to say that I'd watched them, to be able to come here and write a blurb and make a new entry into my database and highlight a little number on some vast list. I plan to get back into watching films eventually, but I don't want to force myself into it, because I don't really see how I'd enjoy it anymore than I was. I'm hoping to let it come naturally. We shall see.

I empathise very strongly with this.

I'm still wondering how you came to the conclusion that a film's dealing with themes of horror precludes it from being in any way profound.

Do you think the way you feel, that exhausted notion of "what's the point", stems from expecting too much from films before you've even seen them? And so most do not even come close to fulfilling their potential to be enjoyed or profound or whatever?

No, not really. I think it comes from the fact that I used to spend my time creatively and film-viewing has completely taken over from that.

Though maybe I do look for deeper experiences than all but a handful of films can provide.

;D
I'm under the delusion that watching films is a form of creativity, like the more I see the more chance I have of giving birth to some kind of idea or something.

Do you know the difference between wanting to see a film and wanting to have seen a film?
More and more my motivation for watching the films that I do is wanting to have seen them, and when I'm debating with myself whether I want to watch a certain film right this moment, wanting to have seen it doesn't fill me with enthusiasm for actually taking the plunge.
And it's not that I think I'll have to suffer through them, I expect to enjoy seeing them, and almost always do. I think it's strictly an attitude problem.
I always have a love/hate relationship with anything I devote a lot of time and thought to. The more films I watch and the more I think about them, the more I love cinema and the more I hate cinema. At least I remain passionate about it, though.

Oh yeah.
It happens with me often when I feel the need to re-watch something, but decide at the last moment that, "No, I have this to watch instead." And it takes me a good twenty minutes or so to get into this new film because, while it's expositing itself, I keep thinking about the party I could be having with the re-watch.

I was kind of pissed I couldn't get anyone else to show interest in the FCM Project thing. I feel like I'd really enjoy that, all watching the same film and then coming here for extensive discussion afterwards.

Nobody here really likes to talk about specific films. They pop their heads up every now and then when they feel their broad philosophies threatened, but as for talking about the films they've been watching, nah...
Strange.
