SEASON 4 SPOILERS
Well, I watched the first episode of Season 4. VERY good. They've tied everything and everyone in perfectly. I loved the sequence of the teacher seminar, inter-cut with the equally pointless terrorism presentation to the cops at the Western District. Really says what this show is all about.

SEASON 4 SPOILERS
I am now six episodes in on the fourth season, and I think it could very well be my favorite at this point.
I love the appearances of Wee-Bey. He's like a long lost ghost from the first season, a long forgotten time. Royce's fall as mayor was interesting to watch. He was a much more likable character in the third season. And Rawls is a lot nicer this season for some reason.
And for my money, Marlo and Chris are a much more chilling pair than Stringer and Avon.

SEASON 4 SPOILERS
I think every public school teacher in the United States should be forced to watch Season Four of "The Wire".
I remember doing bullshit writing assignments in my chemistry class once a week, for reasons never explained to us. "You guys don't know how to write!" What the fuck kind of reasoning is that? I have lost any respect for any teacher that I used to like. They were all sheep, part of a bullshit system. They failed us. I almost want to go back and look them in the eye and ask them how they can live with themselves.
This show is incredible.

I'm getting increasingly excited for this, guys. And don't worry about me bigging things up. I'm careful about stuff like that. Could be a busy, rewarding Christmas break. My next student loan comes through in January. If this passes its "rental" test during the break, I'll be DVD-ing it in January. But as Winston Wolfe says: "Let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet."

(You don't usually get hooked after 2 pages when reading a novel.) If the first sentence doesn't grip me in a novel, I put it down immediately and tick it off from my "to-read" list. :-p

I just saw an ad for this on TV, and I don't think it looks good at all. I'll give it a chance, though.

Kino, I was joking with my novel comment. Once I start a book I tend to finish it - same with films. Even if something doesn't strike me, curiosity puts me on auto-pilot.

This is true, which is why I'll still give it a shot.
How much like Law & Order is it?

I'm about halfway through watching Season 4.
I cannot for the freaking life of me find Seasons 1-3. Are they on DVD?

Regions don't bug me much anymore, I downloaded a program that can play any region on my laptop.
I'm in the US currently as well, so I can buy them for cheapz. I hope. How much are they, US?

Also: ridiculously good show.
It says so much, stays entertaining. Peformances are so far flawless, as far as I'm concerned.
Plus, a new favorite badass: Omar.

Just watched the first two episodes of the first season. I really wish I hadn't of watched Season 4 before the others, I feel like I've skipped to the last page of a novel.
I'm noticing a Sopranos similarity. That isn't a criticism or a serious observation, it's just funny, the things in common: Avon Barksdale and his strip club, his cousin D'Angelo who reminds me a lot of Christopher...
Great show.

I remember thinking the same things when I first watched the show, but pretty soon, it will get so developed and so damn good that you will forget about The Sopranos.

I imagine, yeah. It seems a lot more immersive than the Sopranos.
SEASON 4 SPOILERS
I'm also surprised at the characters. I'm thinking, can these be the same people from Season 4? Prez, especially. And it seems the focus is more on McNulty and D'Angelo, a bit different than the 4th season, which doesn't really focus fully on any one person.
I'm just about to watch episode 6.

Omar, what Season 4 episode are you on? SEASON 4 SPOILERS
Well, as you remember, I had a bootleg of Season 4, but it stopped about fifteen minutes short of finishing the entire season. So, the last (extra) fifteen minutes of the "Final Grades" episode I did not witness, and I was VERY VERY upset, unwilling to bring it up even on here. I've still got the fourth season coming through Netflix soon anyway, so I will finish what I started.
But based on everything, it was my favorite season. Bodie's death really mirrors the children's stories of this season. He was practically in their place in Season 1. What are your thoughts Kino, on this season in particular?

Anyone else started watching this show? Please, y'all, give it a try. For police procedural nuts, this show more than satisfies. Thought the surveillance in The Conversation or other procedurals was interesting or cool? Watch this show. For those into explorations of urban crime and drugs, this surpasses anything out there. For those interested in the legal system and its games, watch this show. For those who are critical of capitalism, the show's creator says that's the main overall theme of the series is that capitalism makes human beings more worthless as days go by, that human life is increasingly devalued. For those who are interested in the "game" of self-preservation in social institutions be it the police force, city hall, or intermediate school, watch this show. For those who like wise-ass humor, it's there. For those interested in the vanishing working class, it's explored in Season 2. For those interested in gangsters trying to work both the illegal and legitimate worlds like Michael Corleone in "Two" and "Three," it's there in Season 3. For those wondering where, when, and how these corner boys come from, it's there in Season 4. It cleverly is a back story to the corner boys/gangsters we see in Seasons 1-3. For those critical of the educational system, watch Season 4. For those interested in the "game" of those in the government, watch Season 3 and 4. For those interested to see novelistic density in terms of narrative in film and tv and intelligent visual storytelling, watch this show. For those who look to be respected highly as critically thinking adults by a show's writers, watch this show. There are countless memorable characters. Tony Sopranos' family's problems (both of 'em) seem trivial compared to those of Michael, Namond, Randy, and Dukie in Season 4. For those interested in the media, the current and final season is exploring it. Seriously. Not watching The Wire is like not watching The Mirror, Citizen Kane or The Godfather; not listening to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Dylan, Gershwin, or Mozart; not reading Dostoyevsky or Shakespeare. In short, it's probably the best example of greatest achievement in its medium. Why do you want to miss out? At least give it a try, if you don't like it, you don't like it. Cool. But try it in full. Wow. That post alone makes me want to see it.

Wow. That post alone makes me want to see it. It's time-managment friendly! An episode is just a shade under 60 minutes. You'd like it. You like "political" and social issues Dylan, too, right? Yeah, you'd at least find the show decent. I edited my previous post - added 2 more selling points to watch the show. (hint: Control F "surveillance" and "legal system") I fear I'm overhyping it, but fuck it. I gotta do what I gotta do.
