I watched the first five episodes of Season 1 last night and I am overjoyed at how surprisingly good it is.
I like how the show keeps you guessing, giving some details of characters little by little, allowing the viewer to piece together a puzzle as it moves on.
Has anybody else seen it or watch it?

I watch it, and never miss an episode, though, I'm not a fan through and through. Why keep on watching then, you might ask. Well, I'm a sucker for some of the material in the show, but the real reason is I want to see the answers and explanation behind this story world that they've created because I have absolutely no theory of my own.
Don't get me wrong, I do love some stuff on the show, but some of its mediocre and bad elements knock it down a few levels. Lot of it is silly, but the stuff I find interesting, they've hooked me.
So, you've already seen the Walkabout episode. That's one of the show's very best.
By the way, have you started watching The Wire yet? Now, that's television of the highest order through and through.

I pretty much dislike this show now. Season 1 was really good, but season 2 was just boring. I watched the first episode of s3, and that wasn't too bad.
I'd rather watch a million other things, but I'll probably get around to Lost again, just to see what happens.

I read when this was just airing for the first time in the UK that it was conceived as two seasons, and then the popularity made them change it to a lot more than that.
That alone put me off.

I've never followed it, but my brother used to, and from what I've seen it seems to be the definition of a shaggy dog story.

I've never followed it, but my brother used to, and from what I've seen it seems to be the definition of a shaggy dog story. Basically. I hear that it's all supposed to make sense in the end, and that nothing is irrelevant, but if you can't enjoy the journey, is the end really worth it?

A great deal of Season 3 is awful in my opinion especially the first half or so. The last few episodes of that season step up in quality. The Season 3 Finale is a great, great, great episode. It would be a shame if you don't get to see that episode. A lot of people think Season 4 is the show's best by far. A great deal of the show is awful. It's middle-brow television maybe not even that. Though I will continue to watch. It's not awful through and through.

Lost -- I abandoned after the second season. It just got too weird. If I remember correctly and you'll have to forgive me as there are so much characters and stories to keep track of, so far, that's not true. Then again, the writers could change things up again. I think you'd really like what they did with John Locke's character by Season 5 even if you didn't like the character by Season 2. Really one of the best arcs in the series. re: The Wire I'm glad you gave it a chance.

Possible spoilers:
I thought I had heard that John Locke died, but that the island had brought him back to life.

Ugh... Hume and Locke? How far up its own ass is this show? All the superficial referencing is silly to me. They so far haven't really followed up on anything in any significant manner. I think it's just the writers throwing out clues and having its rabid fans try to dissect and interpret every little thing - a game that really doesn't mean anything. I remember there was quite a fuss about The Turn of the Screw being on someone's book shelf and that hasn't turned out to be of any significance. Maybe the only thing they'll really follow through on is the Egyptian mythology.

I watched the very first episode. Though its ending raised my curiosity, the overall aesthetics of the show (if the pilot episode is any indication of what's to come) was identical to that of a mainstream Hollywood popcorn/action thriller. I find it a bit mediocre.

FNL is good? I thought that was like Dawson's Creek with American football or something. I saw some of the film, it just seemed like a pedestrian 'sporting underdog' movie.

The portrayal of the Taylor's marriage is probably the best I've seen on film so far. I've come across a few pieces that note that married couples find it to be the most realistic portrayal on tv. The portrayals of communal and political pressures and demands of people's jobs especially Coach Taylor's; lives of middle and working class small town folk; and high school life are excellent. Racial issues get touched upon as well. Worth watching and overlooking the series' weaknesses (and boy does it have a lot; I've never encountered a work that is so ridiculously excellent in some areas and so eye-roll inducing in others) based on those things alone.

I saw some of the film, it just seemed like a pedestrian 'sporting underdog' movie. Also, the film isn't indicative of the tv series. Even though Berg is involved with the series as well as a few of the producers of the film, they went in a different and superior direction with the series.

Watching Lost before Mad Men, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, and Friday Night Lights? For shame. I have never heard of FNL before, the only one among those you listed that is available on netflix streaming. Do you already have a thread for it (I will check for one, if not please start one to discuss this)? My wife started watching Lost based on a recommendation from her friend and I joined. I kind of feel happy to check out the series that are available for streaming, as I wouldn't be blocking my Q. Sopranos is somewhere in my Q, but I am yet to enqueue SFU. BTW, I am considering purchase of entire Wire box set. I see it available for close to $87 - If you have any recommended place to purchase DVDs, please let me know.

I loved the editing in Lost, though it gets a bit repetitive - the scenes always cut to something other than what I expect naturally.
