Discussion continued from here.
Seinfeld, Curb, Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua-Teen, Mr.Show w/Bob & David (sketch comedy HBO), South Park, Arrested Development,...that's all I can think of at the moment. Subtract Family Guy and Aqua-Teen Hunger Force. I've never heard of Mr Show, but I don't typically like sketch comedy. In addition, and restricting myself to drama (and so leaving out stuff like Brass Eye and Whose Line Is It Anyway?): Extras, The Office (UK), Friends (first few seasons), Father Ted, King of the Hill, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air... that's off the top of the head of someone who barely watches TV. I still haven't watched Spaced or Freaks & Geeks. I hesitate to mention Married with Children because I haven't seen it in years, but I used to love it.

I like all seasons of friends, except may be the last couple of them which got somewhat serious. Also the character change in Phoebe from innocence to meanness.

Mr Bean (tv version) is perhaps my all time favorite comedy.

Well, if you guys could recommend some (current) shows other than The Office that are funnier than Family Guy, I'd be much obliged. But I won't hold my breathe. I don't watch Family Guy so I can't speak on that, but I think Curb and 30 Rock are currently funnier than The Office (U.S.). That is while we're awaiting their new seasons.

Only the 1st ten are in order of preference, and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch:
Seinfeld, The Simpsons, The Office (U.K.), Fawlty Towers, Curb, Arrested Development, I Love Lucy, The Larry Sanders Show, The Honeymooners, Sgt. Bilko (The Phil Silvers Show), Malcolm in the Middle (early seasons), Frasier, Sanford and Son, Futurama, Spaced, Black Books, Father Ted, Green Wing, Soap, Get Smart, The Cosby Show, Cheers, NewsRadio, Married With Children, Strangers with Candy, Andy Griffith Show, Dick Van Dyke Show, All in the Family, Taxi, 30 Rock, Extras, The Office (U.S.), Friends (excluding the seasons following the season after Ross and Rachel break up), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Roseanne, The Bob Newhart Show, Maude.
SCTV, Saturday Night Live, Chappelle's Show, Mr. Show, and Monty Python's Flying Circus if we're counting sketch comedy.
I'm not including my beloved Freaks and Geeks because to me it's more a drama with some comedy rather than a comedy with some drama. Kinda of like if The Office was more like the Office Finale for most of the time.

You're completely neglecting non-American shows... What stuff do you recommend?

I was thinking really of the more famous British shows like Spaced, The Office, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, and Chris Morris's shows. As for recommendations of things that haven't been mentioned in this thread... I haven't been following it recently but I remember Peep Show as being funny.

I oughta get crackin' on Brass Eye.
When you talk of Chris Morris, is it shows written by him, directed by him, or shows that has him as an actor? What do you recommend besides Brass Eye? Netflix only has Big Train and IMDb has additional material in parentheses for his director entries for that show.
Have you seen Black Books, Father Ted, and Green Wing?

I mean Brass Eye and The Day Today, the shows he created (so, a producer credit, I guess). His Blue Jam radio material is also very good, if disturbing.
I haven't seen any of those shows yet, nope.

Thanks.
I think you'd like BB, FT, and GW.

Mr Bean (tv version) is perhaps my all time favorite comedy. Figures. I was actually very much reminded of Mr. Bean when watching WALL·E.

I love(d) The League of Gentlemen. Its first two seasons are brilliant (it lasted three, excluding a Christmas special between 2 and 3, and a film in 2005). Dark and hiliarious; great characterisation and acting. Extras, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office (UK) are my three favourites. The Mighty Boosh is amazing, too. As far as sitcoms go, Friends is my favourite. I've still not delved into Seinfeld. I like Porridge whenever I watch it, and Dad's Army. I've been watching re-runs of The Two Ronnies lately, too; great stuff.

I should have mentioned Friends but I completely forgot b/c I never really watched (don't watch much TV other than football) But it's far too tacitly normal for my tastes.
Clever humor; offers an accurate portrayal of social behavior in America amongst a certain crowd, but not my crowd...
A good show, although, not what I'd consider 'serious,' consciously intelligent art. But I'd lump it right in with classics such as Lucy or The Honeymooners - more or less an identical style of comedy and story structure.

Gina over on the bb recommended Strangers with Candy w/ Stephen Colbert to me. Some resounding moments of laughter, indeed.
And not to sound like the quintessential Zealot, but, Mr. Show w/ Bob & David pretty much ruined all other comedies for me. Almost everything else seems so simplistic and just not funny now relative to David Cross and Bob Odenkirk's masterpiece....(thread coming soon).

I haven't been following it recently but I remember Peep Show as being funny. From what I've seen, that's excellent. Have you seen Black Books, Father Ted, and Green Wing? From what I've seen, I don't like any of these. Father Ted's the most tolerable, though; in fact, from what I've seen, it can be quite good. I tuned into The Kevin Bishop Show recently (it follows Big Brother on eviction night); its trailers had annoyed me to no end, but I thought it was hilarious. You can watch the last episode here. I'm not sure how many of the references non-UK members will catch.

Figures. I was actually very much reminded of Mr. Bean when watching WALL·E. Curious, how so? Just a mostly-silent character inhabiting a world of otherwise order; the balance between cute curiosity and mischief, rendering what 'we' value into mere triviality (that moment where he throws the ring away and keeps its box).

Eastbound and Down. A short season, but one of the funniest I've ever seen.
