I think trailers should go. I mean, what remarkable trailers were there last year? I loved the trailer for "Revolutionary Road". A lot better than the actual film.

I'd be all for a Best Trailer category.

Although saying that, maybe not. Red arrows indicate what I'd like to keep. Otherwise, I'm quite indifferent.
>>> Best Film Best Comedy Film <<< new category >>> Best Direction Best Action Direction <<< new category >>> Best Cinematography >>> Best Editing >>> Best Original Screenplay >>> Best Adapted Screenplay >>> Best Performance by a Male in a Leading Role >>> Best Performance by a Female in a Leading Role >>> Best Performance by a Male in a Supporting Role >>> Best Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role >>> Best Ensemble Cast <<< new category >>> Best Sound Design >>> Best Production Design >>> Best Costume and Make-up Design >>> Best Visual Effects >>> Best Original Score Best Title Sequence <<< new category >>> Best Mise-en-scène >>> Best Artistic Achievement Worst Film >>> Retrospective 2007: Best Film

I advocated a Best Trailer category two years ago because I liked The Black Dahlia's trailer so much, but I don't think it's that good of an idea. Not least because films usually have more than one trailer.
If you're not pushed about the Best Title Sequence category we might as well drop it.
I'd like to keep the other three. Worst Film is our own little Razzie award, and I think the two sub-categories, Comedy Film and Action Direction, offer a new angle, new things to consider. Best Director seldom goes to those skilled at staging action (which many claim is the most difficult thing to direct well), and comedies are always snubbed.
That's 22 categories, and quite enough I think.

Rambo is ineligible this year, no? I nominated for worst film last year, along with Sweeney Todd.

Ah, no. It's eligible this year, because it was ineligible last year.

Also: anonymous nominating, or open? As Pherdy said last year, there might be a few surprises if the initial nominations were private.

Anyone care to share what their ballot would like if the deadline was tomorrow?

Anyone care to share what their ballot would like if the deadline was tomorrow? well, for best title sequence, if it goes through, I still was digging in my memory of impressive sequences of the films I've seen. it came down to these: The Fall The Forbidden Kingdom* Kung Fu Panda L'instinct de mort RocknRolla Quantom of Solace* (did not see the film, but did see the title sequence). few of these are really memorable, say in ten years from now. my best film picks right now would be: The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan) The Fall (Tarsem) Gomorra (Matteo Garrone) Milk (Gus van Sant) The Visitor (Tom McCarthy) but I have still to see some big ones. I find the action direction quite difficult. I remember a cool action scene in Wanted, and can think of a few from The Dark Knight and L'Instinct de mort, but the other action-oriented films I've seen didn't quite stick with me as much.

I just read my post of last year, and I must say I agree with myself I'm not sure if it's more effective, but I'm sure it's more surprising, if it is done anonymous.

I havent seen THe Happening or Jumper (yet? probably not...), but I think my Worst Film list right now has so many choices
Hancock The Spirit Max Payne What Happens in Vegas 27 Dresses Semi Pro Star Wars: The Clone Wars (to be fair the last hour might be better; I turned it off)
I think the Frank Miller effort is in the lead right now

Is In Bruges a comedy or not? To me its more a drama with some funny dialouge (like Pulp Fiction perhaps). The GG Awards considered it a comedy, but Im thinking it isnt.

I'm seeing In Bruges in a few hours at the cinema. From what I've read, I'd say it's a comedy.

I would vote to start a list of people on the bubble between supporting and lead. The next person can copy and paste the list and add their vote. THey can also add more actors to the list. Everyone can only vote for each actor once. If this is an ok idea, Ill get started.... Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight (1, 0) Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight (1,0) Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt (0,1) Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder (1,0) Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionare (1,0) They're all leads, in my opinion. Doubt has three leads, as does The Dark Knight. Viola Davis and Joseph Foster are supporting roles in Doubt.

PSH I can see, but if I recall correctly Amy Adams is almost absent from the entire second half of the movie.
Im interested in seeing Heath as a lead (where he certainely should be in the televised award shows like the Oscars). The Best Actor category is already the most packed category this year with Penn, Rourke, and Langella all making a very strong case. I think the Academy might explode. An "important" performance, a comeback performance, and a real person performance....all of their favorite targets. Just imagine if they added a final performance due to death into that mix.

Amy Adams' role is smaller in the final act, but she's central in the first two and crucial in the final scene.

I really enjoyed the cast. Usually Colin Farrell doesnt bring much to the table but he was ok in this. Gleason and Fiennes were both great.
Large portions of the film had me bored however, and I didnt much care for the conclusion.
