I know next to nothing about indian movies, but i have to tell you, the all dancing, all singing stuff puts the utter dread on me.

I hesitated to write any thoughts on this because I'm still confused about the movie. I don't think the movie was worthy of winning Best Picture, but I did enjoy it enough to give it a second chance, even though I criticized the movie the whole time I watched it. I think this could have been a much better movie if the Who Wants to be a Millionaire angle was left out completely. I would much rather see the lives of the kids as they grow older and Jamal eventually finding Latika and falling in love with her naturally, not because of some popular television show. The choice of music bothered me too. Most of it was fitting but then all of a sudden "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. is supposed to makes sense as we see a bunch of Indian kids running around causing trouble. The song seemed too cool, like they wanted it to have a Tarantino feel or something. svsg might know this, but is there really a Millionaire show in India? And why is the show in English? The way it was subtitled was odd as well. All over the screen with the colored boxes. Again, trying to have a cool style. As I watched this movie I was constantly reminded of City of God, which is what I want Slumdog to be, I guess. I will probably hate it if I ever see it a second time.

Also: how does Jamal having a gun pointed at his face justify his knowledge of who made the revolver? That's quite a leap in logic, but I won't go further than this because the film would surely become too ludicrous for discussion. Who had the gun? Was it Jamal's brother? Anyway, he did say something about "My Colt .45", so I guess he remembered the name Colt. it is curious that the questions were asked in the exact order that they apply to his life I didn't even notice that until I read that! Now I can never watch Slumdog again. That's just too annoying for me to ignore during a whole movie.

svsg might know this, but is there really a Millionaire show in India? And why is the show in English? That part is accurate. There is a show called "Kaun Banega Karod*pati" which is/was extremely popular TV show. It was copied from "Who wants to be a millionaire". The choices are displayed in English on TV screen and the host usually asks his questions in Hindi, but an occasional English line would not be out of place, as Indians frequently mix English words/sentences while speaking in other languages. But it is primarily not an English language show. karod = 10 million Indian rupees (the Indian currency)
