Well, about THE WRESTLER, all i have to say is: Welcome back Mickey Rourke, we missed you. And as for Darren Aronowski, he doesn't need oscars, he's married to Rachael Weisz. Plus she owns one herself, so little Darren A. can always use that as a proxy.

Why is it that everytime a new FCM member comes along that seems to agree with me, has to be me in another disguse? Can't blame Blibble, I too thought the same. That was even before Arkadyrenko started replying to your posts (either in agreement or otherwise), as you can see HERE. No offense, your styles are so similar that it is easy to make that assumption.

Exaclty, your writing styles are so similar. Then when Arkadyrenko kisses your ass like this: Look at our pal Ronnie, he writes proper reviews where we understand perfectly what kind of movie we are dealing with, but also his own point of view and opinion on it. And your response is unusually humble, it makes me wonder. But what do I know... I still think Irishman12 is your split personality

So who you guys got winning Best Actor, Rourke or Penn?
I want Rourke to win as I think he should win, but I have a feeling Penn will.

Both were terrific, but I say Rourke.

Even though a lot of people predicted it, I was pretty surprised that Penn beat out Rourke. I thought the latter was more deserving and had it in the bag! At least Penn ended his speech by recognizing him.

Now the Academy will feel like they owe Rourke an award in the future for a role that will be worse than someone else's.

Eu sou eu, e o Ronnie é o Ronnie. Aceitem isso de uma vez por todas. Obrigado.

Sean Penn was very corteous toward Mickey Rourke, when he caled him "brother". Quite the gentleman.
I dare say, despiste the winnings, Rourke was the real winner this year. What a comeback!
I loved the little swipe that Hugh Jackson did at his song act at the begining, when he mentioned that THE DARK KNIGHT, despiste the huge sucess, was not nominated. That's the firsttime i ever seen in the oscars where inthe opening son, a movie that was not nominated but most though it should. The academy actually has a sense of humour, who though that?

The Academy denied us the possibility of Rourke perhaps topping his Spirit Awards acceptance speech which totally destroyed his BAFTA speech. I shed a tear.

Now the Academy will feel like they owe Rourke an award in the future for a role that will be worse than someone else's. I sincerely hope this isn't the last of great roles offered to Rourke. Rourke admits that it's a moment-by-moment struggle for him to not revert back to his old ways. I just hope he doesn't take not winning Best Actor too personally. He did say that he really wanted to win it.

The way i see it, Rourke is back. And that's good enough for me. Him not winning the oscar is merely secundary. He's back, and that's all that matters.

At least Penn ended his speech by recognizing him. Penn is partly responsible for Rourke's comeback (well, in a very odd way), by giving him a cameo in The Pledge, which you can see on YouTube. It's not much, but in those days Rourke didn't have a lot of better roles. I also think this was the only real surprise of the show, even though I personally think Penn's was the better acting performance, I thought the external sympathy towards Rourke's persona would grant him this win. apparently, as some commentators have speculated, the Academy's acting-voters are not too charmed with Rourke's bad-boy-history (but then again, Penn has such a history too).

After that, Rourke was in Buffalo '66 then Buscemi cast him in Animal Factory then Penn with The Pledge the next year then Rodriguez a few years later then Tony Scott then Sin City then Scott again. From 9 1/2 weeks to the last film before The Rainmaker: yikes. From The Rainmaker on: *Tiger Woods fist pump* But yes, The Pledge is Rourke's best work (he's incredible in it) in that time period so maybe that's what got the attention of directors.

Wow, I can't remember him at all in Buffalo 66 or The Pledge.

He played a real sleazeball. Though like Mick, I can't remember him at all in "The Pledge" (to be honest, I can't remember much of the film except the ending and chickens).
