1. Sudden Death (1995) ***** 2. The Relic (1997) ***** 3. End of Days (1999) ***** 4. Timecop (1994) *****
His earlier films certainly look more interesting. Wouldn't mind seeing The Relic again though.

For the most part, his earliest works were the best, and I've been tempted to bump up 2010 up half a star.

You know what's sad? Peter Hyams may not be a genius or special, but he's not on the alphabetized list...whille Paul W.S. Anderson (AVP) is.

There are many directors not listed in those alphabetized threads. We need a fundamental modification to include all the recent additions.

THE MUSKETEER (2001) - **1/2
Truely Forgettable would-be swashbuckler, though with good HK-choreographed fights and a decent villain turn (if done in his sleep) by Tim Roth.
Full review is up.

Also up, my review of Hyams' THE RELIC, which actually was pretty fun.

"The Amazing Falsworth" - AMAZING STORIES
Some of you maybe have Netflix, then you'll know of the Instant Service. I love that shit. Love it to death, that is if it was alive in the first place.
AMAZING STORIES was a short-live TV series in the 1980s, an attempt by Steven Spielberg (which someone at FCM eloquently crowned him equal to the Softporn King of VHS) to have his own TWILIGHT ZONE-esque anthology television showcase. Now alot of episodes suffered from being that stereotypical Spielbergian-feel good nonsense, which the Beard at times is guilty of, and even I can't defend him.
But the good ones usually were those helmed by good directors, like Martin Scorsese, Joe Dante, Clint Eastwood, etc. Peter Hyams himself got a crack with "The Amazing Falsworth," which I checked out on the Netflix Instant streaming service. It won its scriptwriter an Edgar Award (the Oscars/Tonys/Emmys of Literary Mysteries) back in the day.
The premise: Gregory Hines is a stage magician/psychic (a legit one) who's nightly club meal ticket is being blindfolded and "know" stuff about people by touching them. But he touches a stranger in a trenchcoat, who's revealed to be a strangling serial killer stalking the city. But by the time Hines gets that blindfold off, the murderer skipped. Hines looks for the killer, but since he didn't see his face, he can only identify by touching him.
For a 30 minutes program, there comes a certain point where by basic storytelling runtime economics, you figure out the big twist before the episode is ready. But that doesn't matter, but I was engaged in this mystery, and the premise is a classic mystery conundrum. Plus I forgot how the late Hines was utterly charismatic and entertaining as a comic/dramatic presence.
Too bad he didn't get a chance to show off his tap dancing skills, but hey this sure beats EVE OF DESTRUCTION. I dont believe in grading TV episodes the same as cinema, because they're two different sports, two different fruits, two different penetration styles.
If 1 means its ASS, 2 means its WATCHABLE, then 3 would be GOOD.
This episode was a 3.

If 1 means its ASS, 2 means its WATCHABLE, then 3 would be GOOD. Is it some acronym or more like "sucks ass"?

ASS as in the universal meaning, i.e. "it sucks, ""it stinks," "it sucks ass," and all other variations of the same point.

Happened to catch SUDDEN DEATH on TV and you know, I think I was too harsh on it. Yes a DIE HARD knock-off, but a good one. Unlike say AIR FORCE ONE.
I might re-evaluate and rewrite that review of mine from back in the day.

1. Narrow Margin (1990) ***** 2. Sudden Death (1995) *****
I recently told RRA that I'd seen Timecop, but I just realised I had it mistaken for Sudden Death. If I have seen Timecop, I don't remember anything about it.

1. Narrow Margin (1990) *****2. Sudden Death (1995) *****I'm glad to see that someone else besides me kinda liked NARROW MARGIN. Most supposed Hyams fans dismiss it, not up to par of say OUTLAND or 2010 or CAPRICORN ONE.....but yeah I thought MARGIN was an alright thriller with some nice moments. You should check out those titles I mentioned above. I recently told RRA that I'd seen Timecop, but I just realised I had it mistaken for Sudden Death. If I have seen Timecop, I don't remember anything about it. Can't exactly blame you for mistaking one Hyams/Van Damme actioneer for another. Interesting thing about those both vehicles was how they did OK in the United States. At best Van Damme was a somewhat modest star in America, ala Jason Statham. But overseas, ala Statham, he was a huge International superstar. And the foreign box-office figures for SUDDEN DEATH and TIMECOP prove that.

Saw THE PRESDIO.
Easily the worst Peter Hyams effort I've seen so far.
Yes, even worse than STAY TUNED.
