1.Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times:
WHERE EAGLES DARE (1968)
2.Name a movie that you’ve seen multiple times in the theater:
Both Nolan's BATMAN pictures.
BATMAN BEGINS twice (paid once), THE DARK KNIGHT three times (paid once)
3.Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie:
Christian Bale
4.Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie:
Shia LeBeouf
5.Name a movie that you can and do quote from:
"Go fuck a baker."[/i] - TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.
6.Name a movie musical that you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs:[/quopte]
PINK FLOYD THE WALL (1982)
7.Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with:
Besides THE WALL, I would add RUDE BOY (1980). A crummy picture, but shit the only reason anyone would bother with that one is for The Clash concert scenes, all songs from their first two albums. And "Rudie Can't Fail" from LONDON CALLING.
7.Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with:
8.Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see:
Kathryn Bigelow's
STRANGE DAYS (1995)I say it back in 1999 on video, and quite dug it, even if nobody else gave a shit about it. Watched it again recently, and nobody still gives a damn about it.
A pretty good sci-fi/film noir murder mystery, but unlike say BLADE RUNNER and MINORITY REPORT, its incredibly down the Earth and realistic about the immediate future and its supposed tech advances..which are miniscule. Perhaps too long, but that padding is for padding out this universe instead of just bullshit we get in most 150 minute wide releases these days. Bigelow delivers her trademark visual flare.
Besides that, it captures what I want from
true science fiction: (1) A compelling premise or dramatic hypothesis, and (2) carry through on the logical/emotional complications, dimensions, and consequences of this scenario....and STRANGE DAYS does all that in this supposed reality where memories have become recordable and sold on the black market...including the inevitable snuff rape/murder/death stuff.
Brilliant opening too. Also, we don't get enough movies where Ralph Fiennes is the hero.
9.Name a movie that you own that other people might not have heard of:
PURSUIT (1969), a TV thriller that was the directorial debut of Michael Crichton. YES, that Michael Crichton that tech-thriller author. But he also shot some good shit here and there, like COMA and THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY with Sean Connery, and his original theme park-goes-to-hell adventure WESTWORLD.
Also early acting work of Martin Sheen.
10.Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops:
Jason Statham. The dude started out as a
male model....and now he's the world's biggest B-action star. Also an underrated acting presence, as seen effectively in a Charles Bronson veign in last year's wonderful THE BANK JOB.
11.Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? If so, what?
We have a local drive-in over here, and I occassionally go. I remember seeing there Bigelow's K-19, the last two PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN pictures, X2 back in the day, and I can't remember any others. But I'm sure I saw others there.
12.Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven’t yet gotten around to it:
The notorious 2008 French mystery MARTYRS, which in reading about it from viewers.....intimidates me. Supposedly it's a true
Torture film, and not that Torture Porn junk that's clogged up Hollywood Horror this decade.
13.Ever walked out of a movie:
30 DAYS OF NIGHT (2007)
That to me was a good example of everything wrong with said Hollywood Horror, and I just couldn't take the bullshit anymore. Had to finish watching the rest on bootleg so I could (intellectual honestly) complete my review that I had promised to pen for the WrestleCrap forums.
14.Name a movie that made you cry in the theater:
A recent example I must admit was Pixar's UP. At that moment when the rest of the scrapbook is opened, I heard tears boiling out besides mine. Beautiful and organic. A good citation of why Pixar is the gold standard of American Animation.
15.What’s the last movie you saw in the theater?
Well I'm seeing BRUNO in a matinee noon screening tomorrow. Does that count?
If not, PUBLIC ENEMIES.
16.What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie?
This might surprise you all, but actioneers and thrillers.
But I also love intellectual science fiction, whenever someone bothers to produce them. Or a good true western attempt too.
17.What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
SNOW WHITE in maybe 1988 (3 years old?) during back when Disney would have revival releases of their movies. I only have a vague memory, more an emotion of being upset. My mother claims it came from being scared/bothered by that fucking Witch bitch.
18.What movie do you wish you had never seen?
Some of you might assume I'll say any Bay production.
Well yeah I do, but also PULP FICTION and THE TOXIC AVENGER and John Frakenheimer's shit (RONIN, MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) and Terry Gilliams' BRAZIL back in high school at the same time.
If not, I might have been better off career-wise and as a person....instead of becoming a 5 buck whore for cinema.
19.What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
Cliche answer might be most Lynch and Herzog titles (no shit), but also Mann's THE KEEP. If only because with that Tangerine Dream soundtrack and studio-butchered editing...it doesn't make much sense yet there is
something there. I think.
Ask me this a decade ago, and I would have said SUSPIRA.
20.What is the scariest movie you’ve seen?
Carpenter's IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, but not in the thematic/filmatic sense that you probably expect from an answer to your question.
MOUTH is a good movie, but what gets me is that big spoiler revelation in the end, when private eye Sam Neill finds out
he never existed. All his life, decisions, actions, feelings, thoughts, hopes, fears, dreams....all the creation of horror author Jurgen Prochnow, and everything Neill does is at his discretion.
A fictional character with
absolutely no free will. And that fucking bothers me as a concept for some reason.
21.What is the funniest movie you’ve seen?
ANIMAL HOUSE (1978). Fucker makes me grin and laugh every single time.
22.Name a director who would encourage you to see a film:
David Fincher
23.Name a director who would put you off seeing a film:
you know who
