The portrayal of the Taylor's marriage is probably the best I've seen on film so far. I've come across a few pieces that note that married couples find it to be the most realistic portrayal on tv. The portrayals of communal and political pressures and demands of people's jobs especially Coach Taylor's; lives of middle and working class small town folk; and high school life are excellent. Racial issues get touched upon as well. Worth watching and overlooking the series' weaknesses (and boy does it have a lot; I've never encountered a work that is so ridiculously excellent in some areas and so eye-roll inducing in others) based on those things alone. Also, the film isn't indicative of the tv series. Even though Berg is involved with the series as well as a few of the producers of the film, they went in a different and superior direction with the series. The Taylors' marriage and the Matt-Julie story are A+ material in my book. I found Matt's home life and football story excellent and touching as well. I like to pretend that some of his Season 2 storyline never existed. His Season 3 storyline matches the quality of Season 1. Forgot to say, that the series is really really really funny, too.

I have never heard of FNL before, the only one among those you listed that is available on netflix streaming. Do you already have a thread for it (I will check for one, if not please start one to discuss this)? I believe I recommended it to you because of the Taylors' marriage portrayal in at least one thread. It might've been in the Bergman thread to follow up on recommendations I gave concerning films that dealt with relationships. My mistake. It was in the Wong Kar-wai thread not Bergman. You haven't heard any filmmaking news about FNL? They shoot in Austin.
