2046 Wong Kar-wai 2004 France/Germany/Hong Kong/China Returning from Singapore to Hong Kong in the late 1960s, a writer of futuristic erotic novels tries to forget a past love affair. More ambitious than In the Mood for Love, both aesthetically (a CGI future, more eclectic choice of music) and narratively (enhancing the protagonist's heartbreak by means of including his own fiction), it develops from an erotic, rather cold affair into a poignant, reflective hymn to lost love.
