The Unchanging Sea DW Griffith 1910 USA A husband loses his memory in a fishing trip, and only regains it years after his daughter is born. Quite good, rather poignant short which was inspired by a Charles Kingsley poem. Griffith grew up with strong influences in literature, and in adapting poetry into cinematic form, he was able to experiment with visual language and the ways in which those visuals can contrast and compliment one another. Here, if the overall story is a little muddled (you've got to pay attention to the lyrics of the poem in the intertitles), there is a wonderful shot, early on, of men leaving their wives to go fishing.
