So, Stringer Bell and Avon Barksdale make it to season 3. McNulty, too. Your image should have a spoiler warning, wetty.

^^ Money well-spent, Capo. Seriously.
Before your loan gets spent on drinking (LOL) and partying, you should just go ahead and buy the Season 4 set being that Season 3 and 4 are widely considered to be the show's best seasons.
While Season 5 is my least favorite and seems to be widely considered the weakest season, it comes out this August. Don't know about Amazon UK, but Amazon US gives a 35% pre-order discount.

Coulda sworn I replied to this. Anyway: Waiting for season 4 to come down in price. I nabbed the two above for £18 each (with online student discount). Season 4 is £28 at present. And I'm taking a break from the alcohol for a few weeks, I think. It's heavy on the wallet, and I can feel the strain on my heart when I wake up on a morning.

Student discount for DVDs? Wow. From a college bookstore or the like?

HMV; we get student discount (with valid student card) at a lot of stores over here. 10% at most places, though I went to a Chinese buffet the other week and it was 20%!

Sub-par features save for the outtake.

I don't really care for features. I rarely find the time to watch them. I used to listen to director commentaries, but even that seems too much effort now.

If I'm buying it, I'll usually care about the extras. I've heard the There Will Be Blood packaging feels like a pirated DVD, but I'll wait and find out for myself...afterall, Inland Empire wasn't exactly distributed impressively (though, Lynch always has great extra features). Some directors commentaries I can't miss, like Mann or Cronenberg - both who are capable of talking eloquently about their films and "film" for hours.

Yeah, Cronenberg's commentaries are fantastic. Greenaway's are interesting too, if not as enjoyable.
Mostly I don't like directors' commnetaries, though. The really great commentary tracks are usually by historians or critics and are pre-written and screen-specific. The commentary tracks included on Universal's 'Monster Legacy' box-sets are the best I've heard. They're provided for Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and all three Creature films. All of those boxes are must-buys, I think. Ridiculously good value.
Larry Charles gives good commentaries on the Seinfeld DVDs.
The worst commentaries come from the casts, usually, who haven't seen the show/movie in years and after they've introduced themselves their 'commentary' consists of an additional laugh track.
Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham also contribute a pathetic commentary to The Last House on the Left. Neither of them has seen the film in over 30 years, and there are 10-minute stretches of total silence before one reminds the other that they're not just supposed to be watching their film.

Cool. If you're going for any one I'd pick the Frankenstein set. The Creature films are the weakest (still haven't watched The Creature Walks Among Us).

It was revealed today that The Man Who Wasn't There is my exam film for the film noir unit. It was shown today, is showing tomorrow, and is showing on Friday. Missed today's, tomorrow's is at 9.45am, and I'm going out on Thursday night. I might have to buy it. And today I did. Not without much effort and walking, though. HMV and Zavvi didn't have it, and so I had to go trekking across the city looking in rickety old stores that file everything in random. One store had it for £10. I had to ask the guy if it was the right price. Found another store but it wasn't in, but the rest of the bargains were quite good. Was gonna buy the Seinfeld seasons 1 and 2 (together) for £10, but then conjured the effort to ask the guy if, by some miracle, he had The Man Who Wasn't There. He looks at me with beady eyes and says, "Billy Bob Thornton?" When I nod, he retreats to the back room and emerges a few moments later with it. £3.50 new. Needless to say I sucked him off.

I really shouldn't, but fuck it: I hope you say that because of the blow to your wallet or the time it'll eat up. More than worth it in both cases, IMHO.
