Apparently "Absurda" IS a part of To Each His Cinema and will be included in an upcoming special edition DVD. The Coen's contribution, "World Cinema", was left off the current DVD for some reason and will also be included on the re-release. Weird.

I probably came off a as a bit of a cinema vigilante... people here (at my university) aren't that bad. I've got a few friends in the film programs who say it's surprising how many people are so eager to "sell out", but most of Lynch debauchery takes place in the older, local scene - or so I've encountered. I also think David brought this upon himself with his "10 clues" bullshit: www.mulholland-drive.net/studies/10clues.htm

The Straight Story is showing at my local soon, with a live score. I don't know how that's going to work...

Can't believe I missed this - the post not the actual article. I love Greil's writings on Lynch, especially that one and his "Bill Pulman's Face" section of The Shape of Things to Come.

As I am finally about to wrap up "Twin Peaks", I have learned that Netflix has put a short wait up for "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me", which might mean I have to wait a little bit to see it (and leave the Twin Peaks state of mind), or they won't come through, which happens. Still, they are better than most.

I also thought this movie was great. I'm due to watch it again. It's the only movie I've seen from Lynch so I'm curious to see what else he has done, especially because he is so popular here on the board. What I loved the most was what Omar already mentioned, minimal dialogue. Too many movies focus on what the characters are saying and not what they are doing. It makes his journey more impressive by showing how alone he is most of the time driving his lawnmower through the beautiful countryside. I will be very interested in what you think of his other movies. I am biased beyond a point now, mainly as a result of frustration trying to figure out what he is trying to say. I can't even complain that he deals with the same theme, as another of my top 5 filmmakers, Alain Resnais, does the same, but always manages to thrill me completely. This was posted in the thread for The Straight Story but my follow up question is more suited for this thread. Since I have only seen The Straight Story, and from what I hear it is very different than what he usually directs, where would you recommend I go next in exploring his films?

Haven't seen a Lynch film for ages so these ratings are quite old. I put off seeing Inland Empire purely because I got sick of hearing about the guy. Will watch it soon and not sure if all these ratings would be the same when or if i revisit them.
Features:
1. Lost Highway (1997) 9/10 2. Mulholland Dr. (2001) 8/10 3. Twin Peaks: Pilot (1990) 8/10 4. Eraserhead (1977) 8/10 5. Blue Velvet (1986) 7/10 6. The Straight Story (1999) 7/10 7. Wild at Heart (1990) 5/10 8. Dune (1984) 4/10 9. The Elephant Man (1980) 3/10
Shorts:
Lumière et compagnie (1995) 4/10 (his section only)
