This thread is dedicated to the current Criterion Collection DVDs, as well as their future releases. All of the films that they are releasing within the few months look great, but there are only two that I will be able to purchase: I am especially excited about the latter. It is a small cult film that I haven't seen in such a long time, and now it's getting the Criterion treatment. Their release of Bunuel's "Viridiana" in May might be one I have to pick up as well.

What ever happened to their 'Eclipse' sub-label? It was supposed to specialise in cult films (I think Equinox was initially supposed to be released through it), and El Topo and The Holy Mountain were rumoured to be making their first DVD appearances.

Yeah, I love the case for that, as well as the artwork.

Yes, Steadman's artwork is spectacular... It really matches Thompson's writing quite well.
If you're a fan of Ralph Steadman's artwork, or just a fan of gonzo in general, I reccomend putting forth the $50 dollars for a copy of Hunter's Curse of Lono. The book is absolutely gigantic. I've stated several times in the past that it is just the right size and weight to kill a wild animal with; and this makes it ideal for viewing the colored prints of Steadman's illustrations. Aside from that, I almost laughed as much reading Lono as I did reading Fear and Loathing.

I've seen the Fear and Loathing and 8 1/2 Criterion releases. I'm not really into special features though, so I've probably never really appreciated them to their full extent.
I just picked up Wild Strawberries and The Last Temptation of Christ, both of the Criterion Collection. Reviews upcoming.

I used to place a lot of value on special features, but I've discovered I very seldom watch them...
...I'm a hi-fi AV barebones kinda guy, henceforth.

The best special features I think are short films from the same director, like on the Breathless and Last Year in Marienbad DVDs.

Yeah, that artwork is fantastic. I dunno about paying Criterion prices for B-movies, though. Maybe get these instead?

I really like the Army of Shadows and Sansho the Bailiff covers. Wish that C wasn't in the corner though. :/

Yeah, it looks too much like a part of the image.

Marker has had "one of the most daring and uncompromising careers in cinema’s history", and yet these are the only two films available on video. What's with that?

Marker has a few of his work out on non-R1 DVD. And his Kurosawa documentary, A.K., is available on the second disc of Criterion's release of Ran.
