Of course not, that's the whole point of the film! It's about the importance of life, any life, all life is emotion! What more did you want out of it? It's one of the few geniune art films Hollywood has ever produced! BLADE RUNNER has always been a polarizing picture. Either People like you and me really love it, and the rest like Capo...just don't. But i don't understand what his problem with it is, his criticisms that i've pointed out are the main themes of the film, so i'm totally confused as to where he's coming from.

He doesn't buy the premise, or intellectual argumentation, or whatever. Which I don't necessarily think is the reason to not dig a film. I mean I and most folks never took seriously the whole right wing ideology of RED DAWN, you know the godless Commies wanna conquer us all, we all must have guns, etc. But I still think its a decent picture with some qualities to it.

The "intellectual argument" is that ALL intelligent life naturally develops feeling and emotion even if it's created by man, but he's criticising the film for not taking this perspective, even though it does.....which is what i'm confused about! Unless he's watched a cut that's entirely different to any i've ever seen.

I don't really care that much to be honest, it's more of a criticism of his reasons for disliking it.

My criticism of his criticism is there for him to respond to anytime, like i said i really don't care enough about it to start PMing him on every film we have a difference of opinion on......i'd be here for days just doing that if i was going to

Sorry, Ron; these director threads haven't been my highest priority since the most recent pandemic of rank'em-all-itis.
Anasazie, I need and want to watch Blade Runner again, especially after reading your post(s). Watch this space...
For now, I think I found it quite obvious; or, I've totally misunderstood it. Probably the latter - though its bloated grandeur (Hauer helps with that) made me reluctant to interrogate further.
But no, I'll definitely watch it again soon.

Speaking of which, did you survive Lynch's DUNE during the holidays?

I didn't watch it. I haven't seen a film yet this year.
(Well, actually, that's a lie. I watched The Descent on TV last night.)

No worries Capo, i'll be interested to know you response after the re-visit. I find it very dark and despite the amazing visuals and music i really think it's quite a compact and personal film, very moving, very sad......

Gave BLACK RAIN another chance...still pretty, still well-produced and well-acted for the most part, and still can't give a damn about all that.

I saw Blade Runner for the first time tonight, and I felt bad for Roy. He shouldn't be a slave. He just wants a good and meaningful life like the rest of us humans.

Capo - Just curious, why you prefer BLACK RAIN to AMERICAN GANGSTER?
