1. The Big Sleep (1946) 2. Red River (1948) (I wish it didn't have the enforced studio ending but it is still brilliant) 3. Rio Bravo (1959) 4. His Girl Friday (1940) 5. To Have and Have Not (1944) 6. Only Angels Have Wings (1939)

I must say, Kino, the amount of films you've seen seems to dwarf my own experience.
Everyone's a critic, but there is certainly something to be said for a critic who has seen a lot more than you have.

It also might look like more because you focus on directors (I'm assuming) whereas I kind of just hit them sporadically (sp?).
And yes, I'm planning on sticking with the top 1000 until I run out of steam (lose interest), or until May, whichever comes first. I'd like to keep seriously watching films over the summer but I don't expect much.
Edit: BTW, I estimate the number of movies I've seen as somewhere in the 600 range. Not sure if you have any idea where you're at.

Kino, are you planning to post lists in all of the Director's threads? I'd be interested to see how you rate/rank films by directors I'm more familiar with and whose work I've seen a lot of (Cronenberg, Lynch, Greenaway, Egoyan, Herzog, Tsukamoto, the Quays, Svankmajer, Kim, De Palma, Welles, Gilliam, von Trier, the Coens, Jarmusch, Kubrick, Tarr, Van Sant, Polanski, Carpenter, Altman, Bergman, Hitchcock, Bresson, Spielberg, et al).
