1. The Fountain (2006) It's been way too long since I've seen "Pi" to rate it. Though I remember liking it a lot. Aside from the ratings, what are everyone's general thoughts about this film-maker and his films?

He seems incredibly confident, which I like; his films seem very different to one another, which I like; and he seems to get more ambitious with each one, which I also like.
I need to see Requiem and Pi again; I remember the former being driven by editing, the latter by visuals. I don't expect Requiem to hold up a rewatch. Pi, on the other hand, might just blow me away.
Can't wait for The Fountain.

The Fountain is pretty amazing, actually. I cried for a good several minutes during it. It has everything going for it: thematic resonance, sustained energy and narrative rhythm, excellent score, multiple layers and a brilliant performance from Hugh Jackman. The kind of film that sends me into much excitement at the prospect of making films.

How many of you saw fountain on the big screen? I think that this movie needs to be seen on big screen for some of the visual effects. That aside, I rate aronofsky very high. Both the movies of his that I have seen are already in my top 10 or so... I just hope he doesn't rush into making his next movie. To keep improving from this point seems difficult to me, I will be so happy if he does.

I'd expect him to get better, since there's no real reason to see why he isn't getting more ambitious and more confident with each film.

Pi was good. It had a lot of different angles in it - the paranoia, the mysterious Jews, the obsession with numbers. Those are three foundations for every great movie. But he did it was this cheap equipment and it worked, really well.
Requiem was boring. Needle in arm X repeat.
