The Great Dictator The above needs a rewatch. Vercetti, I strongly urge that you pick up some of his work when you've got the chance. Really, just some great stuff. The Great Dictator is a great introduction and was my first Chaplin film but it is overrated...

I caught the first half of Shoulder Arms on the big screen today; from what I saw, it looked to be possibly his best film.

What did you think of Monsieur Verdoux when you watched it? That one's next for me.

Its opening title says it's a "comedy of murders", but I found it to have little laughs and few deaths. Grossly long and unconvincingly moralistic at the end; it was based on an idea by Welles.
Jake likes it more than me.

Capo.... "grossly long"..... This from the man who did Dekalog in one sitting and said he "couldn't wait" to do Satantango. Strange, as I had always liked Chaplin for being fairly brief.

Sorry, I meant over-long. It seems horribly and unnecessarily bloated compared to his other films. I did Dekalog in three.
