I actually liked his over-the-top-action movies from the nineties when I was in the right demographic. Bad Boys I remember being the first movie I went to with my friends without any adult accompanying us (although we were brought and picked up by car, so that's nice...). I think I've seen all of his major features: 1. Armageddon 2. The Rock 3. The Island 4. Bad Boys 5. Pearl Harbor 6. Transformers 7. Bad Boys II Most of these I only saw when they just came out, so Armageddon's high rating is based on viewings from some 10 years ago when I was in my mid-teens. I actually own it on dvd. I wonder if my attitude towards this kind of entertainment has changed. For instace, I still like Independence Day and Titanic and always have. comparisons with more mature sci fi/action directors are irrelevant, I think. Bay has different objectives. don't know if he ever made or is planning to make something like a racing movie, but that's the kind of thing I think would fit him. unpretentious, fast-paced car chases without substance. I'd be fine with that.

Despite the hate, I doubt there's anyone here that wont see Transformers 2 eventually Considering I saw TF1 on bootleg, you're right. And yes, its true, I haven't paid to watch a Bay movie since PEARL HARBOR, one of the few movies I've ever seen to actually insult me.

Bay leaving explosions behind in pursuit of the artsy fartsy? IMDb Michael Bay has made his last Transformers movie - the director is set to quit the action franchise because he has "had enough" of making big budget blockbusters.
The filmmaker helmed the original 2007 movie and returned this year with its sequel - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
But Bay, who is known for his explosive action sequences, is sick of receiving negative reviews from critics who dislike his movie-making style and is determined to move away from the genre.
He says, "It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie."
And Bay admits that if film bosses give the go ahead for a third Transformers movie, they will have to find a different director.
He adds, "After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world.
"I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions."

I would agree if it were an independent director/producer team trying to make a transformers like movie. But that is hardly the case with his genre of movies. Hollywood has a huge infrastructure in place to do this kind of stuff and his movies are made with money running in high millions.

Hollywood has a huge infrastructure in place to do this kind of stuff and his movies are made with money running in high millions. I don't think he's talking about that. I think he's talking about stuff like filming action sequences (i.e., doing multiple takes, worrying about continuity and coverage, etc.). I'd imagine directing a mix of real actors and locations with CGI is a pain. Stuff like that.

Like PEARL HARBOR?
I dont think the dude is competent in any form of action thrillism or legitimate excitement. But I do know his "dramatic" attempts are much worse, believe it or not?
Besides, I don't trust Bay on him wanting to quit. I remember a year or two ago back when Paramount briefly went HD-DVD exclusive (this before HD curled up and died) and Bay threw a rather public pissfit on his website's message board, threatening to quit the TRANSFORMERS sequel.
And briefly, I admired Bay. I hate his movies. I think he's a dipshit, without any redeeming qualities that I could bypass his personal defects. But I can't blame him if he wants his retarded cinema transfered to the best home entertainment audio/visual out there.
THEN he claims he overrated, and retracted his threat. Thus I can't respect him for anything. He's like the Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT. He has a giant pile of money, and sets fire to it.
But this commercial he appeared in made me go LMAO:
