so, have the dissapointing sequels downgraded everyone's rating of the first film? or didn't any of you actually liked it at first? admitted, I needed academic (!!!) articles and a college course to give me enough insight into the first film to admire it properly, but now I do. not for the visuals, but for the epic scale of it's philosophies. this was ruined in the next two films with the emphasis on biblical themes. I enjoyed the original immensely in 1999. I gradually grew out of it, and then the two sequels were so unbearably affected and empty-headed that they stained the original.
What's epic about its philosophies?

The first movie made a huge splash thanks to some amazing special effects. Now that Ive seen the technology a lot more often (and better used) in other movies, I need a lot more for the movie to still be fun, and the movie doesnt have much to offer.
