Really interested in Kobo Abe, the writer whose work these films are based on. Bought one of his books (not one of the ones made into a film) a while ago, but still haven't got round to it.

1. Pitfall (1962) 2. Woman of the Dunes (1964) 3. The Face of Another (1966) Yeah, I know, I loved them all. To be honest, I could not really rate them by favorites. It's been a year since I first saw them (or maybe it was early this year?), but I remember them pretty well, "Pitfall" maybe the most. I love it's opening, with the father and son escaping through the night, and the mysterious man in white. Part of the film unfolds like a detective story, a ghost story, and at times, like a documentary, but it maintains a haunting and very strange vibe throughout. The rape/murder scene is very frightening, as is the village setting. I remember the weird laboratory of the plastic surgeon in "The Face of Another". The main character's relationship with his wife was also very interesting and sad. A very "deep" movie, I suppose. There's lots of questions involving identity. And the ending to "Woman of the Dunes"..........I MUST see these films again.
