I remember being very disappointed in "The Asphalt Jungle" Mick, so don't go in with high hopes. His other films I've just seen bits and pieces of over the years. Welcome back Marty!

Moby Dick's his worst? I've always been intrigued by that. Or at least the novel.

Well, consider me officially interested in this guy...
I just watched Under the Volcano, and I feel with a few days' reflection I'll confirm it as a brilliant film. Funnily enough, I see The Maltese Falcon on a big(gish) screen on Friday, along with M. (They're starting my "Film Noir" unit with a curiously linked double bill.) I now can't wait to watch The Dead.

For my money, Huston is criminally underrated. Yea, saw UTV a couple of weeks ago and it's fantastic. With The Dead, Huston managed to - what master filmmakers with long careers usually don't do - end his directing career with a great movie. In its simplicity, Fat City is fuckin' ballsy, man. It's as good as 70s cinema got. An old-timer from the studio system made Fat City? Shit, if one didn't know it was Huston, one might think it was a directing maverick or film school brat. Also, he gave us one of the staples and masterpieces of the heist film - The Asphalt Jungle. Treasure of the Sierra Madre is awesome. (It's PTA's favorite film.)

The Maltese Faclon I just looked at his filmography and it looks massive (both the number as well as the scale of his projects). Just this one film I've seen of him is somewhat over-rated in my opinion.

Moby Dick's his worst? I've always been intrigued by that. Or at least the novel. I watched about fifteen minutes of this early on Christmas morning and it seemed very tame; the novel has intrigued me for years, and still does.

The novel is high on my must-read list, but it's so damn long!
