You're not the first to vouch for Spirit of the Beehive, a friend of mine deems it remarkable. And, unlike the films in your other two threads, this one is actually easily accessible for me.

I've a friend who knows a friend who writes the sleevenotes for Masters of Cinema. A few loans might be needed soon. (They happen to be very expensive, and rarely in sales.)

I think Jake lists Spirit of the Beehive as one of his ten favorite movies?

Though I can see the visual and thematic similarities to Malick's first two films, in the subjective child's-eye narrative and the wide open geography (endless and epic from the perspective we're granted), Spirit of the Beehive reminded me even more of Julio Medem; I'd say he's definitely a fan.
It also appears to have been an enormous influence on Phillip Ridley's The Reflecting Skin and Terry Gilliam's Tideland.

He looks like Gerry Adams.

Ah, Medem...I adore Lovers of the Arctice Circle. Need to see more of his stuff. The film it specifically reminded me of was his first: Vacas. That's a really peculiar one. I haven't seen it a long time. When I saw Tideland I figured The Reflecting Skin was its primary influence (they employ a lot of the same metaphors in service of a lot of the same themes), but it's clear they're both indebted to Erice's film.
