Highly recommended director, one of my favourites. Fans of Bergman, Tarkovsky, perhaps Bresson and Kiarostami too, should check him out.

1. Uzak (2002) 2. Koza (1995) I have Kasaba ready to watch. Climates along with Dumont's Flandres is my most anticipated recent film, though I'll have to wait for the DVD as there's no chance in hell of it playing near me. Uzak's one of the best films I've ever seen. Almost painful to me, as the two protagonists are almost mirror images of myself. If ever there were two characters in film I could relate to, it's those two. Again like I said in the Angelopoulos thread, the type of films he makes appeal to me greatly.

How many directors on these boards have people ranked in reverse chronological order?
Ceylan's control, discipline and style have all developed as you progress chronologically through his work. I love them all; he's one of my favourite filmmakers.

When I think of this guy (the most exciting director to emerge from the late 90s, for me), it's like watching my favourite snooker player on form: I obviously want him to win, but I'm thinking, "surely he can't go on like this, he's playing far too well." But no, I have every confidence in Ceylan; I recommend him to fans of Tarkovsky, of Denis, of Sofia Coppola, of Samira Makhmalbaf... his films are quiet, subtle and hugely affecting. The sound design and camerawork of Climates have been haunting me in spells since I saw it earlier this year on the big screen. Those two sex scenes, very different to one another, are brilliant.
I'm with Jake: the kind of films I'm drawn to, and the kind of films I'd love to make myself.

I agree with the adoration from Capo, ONE of the most interesting directors to emerge in the last decade. Although his latest is a step back for me.
Features:
1. Climates (2006) 9/10 2. Uzak (2002) 8/10 3. Kasaba (1997) 8/10 4. Three Monkeys (2008) 7/10 5. Clouds of May (1999) 7/10
Shorts:
1. Koza (1995) 9/10

Really? I can't wait to see it. It sold out pretty much instantly when tickets went on sale to BFI members for the London Film Festival. Us mortals didn't get a look in.

I won't say too much as you're still yet to see it, but i just felt it lacked that amazing human warmth the Climates had. He's developed a completely brilliant control of the medium, even more so this time than previously, i just feel a bit of substance and depth has gone astray.
Still very much worth seeing though. I'd be interested to know what you make of it.
