I normally have a burning psychopathic hatred of reality TV and even more, MTV which is a horrible network that worries more about bullshit then music itself. MTV hasn't been worth watching since the days of Beavis and Butthead for me. However I love this show. Being a huge Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne fan I find it very entertaining, especially since today's fried Ozzy Osbourne has the same lack of energy as my grandfather, which adds to the humor for me. Did anyone else like this show?

Meh, I understand it's a pretty mainstream staple of today's shitty MTV generation society, but still I like it, especially with the handful of Zakk Wylde cameos around.
Though Jack and Kelly Osbourne are very annoying.

I hate the shit out of that show and every member of that family.
It is over now, isn't it?

It's been over, and replaced on VH1 by Hogan Knows Best, which inspires my murderous rages.
Though I have to say, do you hate Ozzy Osbourne?

Yeah, I can't stand him.
His wife is the worst. I couldn't believe it when she was at the Oscars last year being asked her opinion about the nominees.
"I didn't like Sideways."
So? Who the fuck are you?

Meh, his kids are the annoying ones. While Ozzy's Sabbath and solo career is great, his annoying daughter has to make shitty music. Not to mention Jack annoys me just as much with his "I'm Ozzy's son attitude" all over the place.
Sharon sometimes gets on my nerve, but other times I don't mind her.

Who the fuck are you? Wetdog is the worst. I couldn't believe what he said about The Godfather part 2. "The film is extremely novelistic (there's not even a single scene here that's close to being as cinematic--or as interesting--as the restaurant assassination in The Godfather)." So? Who the fuck are you?

I'd like to think I have more to say about cinema than Sharon Osbourne.
But then, I'm not being asked to the Oscars to give my opinion, am I?
So who am I? Some guy on a message board behaving like some guy on a message board.
And who is she? The wife of some reality-TV rock star behaving like someone whose opinion on cinema actually matters.

...but I thought everybody's opinion should matter? You said it yourself 100 times. Don't you think you're being a tad hypocritical right now? Arrogant too?
Sheer arrogance.

...but I thought everybody's opinion should matter? You said it yourself 100 times. No, I said everyone's taste is equally valid, and that's true. There's no such thing as good or bad taste, that notion undermines the whole concept of taste. But the more you know about something, the more weight your opinion carries - or the more it 'matters', although who it matters to is of course arguable. Anyway, like 99% of the people on IMDb, Sharon Osbourne's opinion does not matter in the least to me. It's not as if they just asked her what she thought of the nominees while she was coming up the red carpet, that would've been fine, but they actually cut to an interview, specifically An Interview with Sharon Osbourne, as though we should care. It might as well have been Paris Hilton. No, I don't. I think you're being strangely touchy. It's just a fact. One that applies equally to most of the members of this board. Yourself included. If that's arrogance--simply believing you know more about something than somebody else--then I suppose the bemused and irritated psychologists who phoned into the talk show on which Tom Cruise was claiming that there's actually 'no such thing' as chemical imbalances were just being arrogant in correcting him and saying he's an actor, not a scientist, and shouldn't be talking about things he knows nothing about. They'd like to believe they have more to say about psychology than Tom Cruise. Is that arrogance?

I'm just curious, what was Sharon's context? Was she just saying it as a normal person's opinion like someone who doesn't focus on it as art like we do?
I admit I get furious and/or annoyed at some people's opinions. Hell, you saying you hated Ozzy annoyed me, considering I think he's a great and misunderstood musician.
I think it's natural to get annoyed at other opinions. Hell, Capo knows there's a few members at the Gangster BB who are annoying, well at least to me. Remember Mulholland Drive was "Weird for the sake of being weird" while other Tarantino-praised Asian flicks are praised for having blood spattering all over the place?

It was like, "Now let's cut from the red carpet to an interview we've set up specifically to see what Sharon Osbourne thinks of the Best Picture nominees."

Wetdog, if all art is purely subjective, then how can one person qualify over another to make judgement?
This is a free country, Sharon Osbourne can say whatever the fuck she wants to say, whenever the fuck she wants to say it. Same applies for everybody else.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm not suggesting she doesn't have the right to dislike Sideways, or that her reasons for disliking it are any less valid than anyone else's reasons for liking it, or that she doesn't have the right to say whatever she wants whenever she wants.
I'm suggesting that it's absurd to assume we should care enough to actually set up an interview with her just so she can say it.
Sharon Osbourne's opinion is informed by exactly the same amount of film knowledge as any random populist movie fan you could pull off the street.
"Next up, the Hilton sisters wander around an art gallery telling us what they do and don't like. Must-see TV."

Then why would you hate her? Hate the people who chose to interview her if that's how you feel.

I don't hate her because of that interview.
I hate that interview more because it's with her.
And she evidently does feel that her opinion is extraordinarily valuable, given the amount of times I've seen her sitting on panels passing judgement on people with that Simon Cowell douchebag. Which is one of the reasons I dislike her. I wouldn't be surprised if she requested the interview.

I watch MTV for pure humor now. I remember sitting around in 1999-2001, and I thought "Wow, how cool." Now I watch it, and laugh histerically, the way they stereotype my generation. It's hilarious to me.
Everyonce in a while, I'll get drunk and watch "Next" at 4:30 in the morning. Good times. Funny times.
