SEASON 3 SPOILERSI was racking my brain trying to think of the scene between Cutty and Marlow that you're talking about. Are you confusing Marlo with Fruit? That's the guy who robs Cutty's package and who Cutty finds himself unable to shoot later. SEASON 3 SPOILERSOh crap, you're right. Well that changes everything. Those guys look a lot alike but that explains a lot. I was wondering why Marlo seemed to act a little different at times.

I love the way The Deacon talks. I could listen to him all day. Prop Joe as well, with the way he says words that rhyme with "you". He says it like "Yeeeouuu".

Prop Joe as well, with the way he says words that rhyme with "you". He says it like "Yeeeouuu". Baltimore accents: Robert Chew (Prop Joe), Toots Duvall (Assistant Principal Donnelly), and Jay Landsman (Lt. Mello). I love how Joe says dog, too - "dug"/"doug."

List price is $249! I guess you can sell it for almost nothing when you don't have it in stock.

Blibble, Best Buy has the complete box set at the same price, and it seems to be in stock. You could head over to a store and not have to wait.

I have no qualms in openly endorsing Amazon, I have bought huge number of things from them and the shopping experience has always been great. They don't scam people with prices (usually among the cheapest without mail-in rebates, which is the real scam). Good you have Best Buy to buy right away at the same price.

As I posted in the DVD thread, my parents really came through this Christmas and bought me the box set of The Wire. I was hoping for one, maybe two seasons, but now I have them all. I would have preferred the individual sets for packaging reasons, but that's a silly reason. I'm happy to have them all! My girlfriend was happy as well, saying "You mean, now we can rent movies other than The Wire!? YAY!"

Not yet, I'm about half way through the 4th season. It's my favorite so far.

Season five is grrrreeeaaaat. How great is Haynes? Carver, too.
McNulty and Freamon are suitably annoying, particularly the former.
Jamie Hector = best performance on the show? Especially season five.
SEASON FIVE SPOILERS
Prop Joe's final scene: Marlo's dialogue, and Hector's delivery, is chilling; haunting. Wowzee.

He had the same expression on his face throughout the series, so not one of my favorites. Not bad, but average.

But that's his character; minimal, restrained, introverted. He betrays a lot with a simple eye movement or mouth gesture.
SEASON FIVE SPOILERS
I particularly love how vulnerable and out-of-his-depth he seems in early scenes with the Greeks, such as in the season four finale (which he overcomes by taking Prop Joe out), and when he goes to the French-speaking bank.

He had the same expression on his face throughout the series, so not one of my favorites. Not bad, but average. It's a intended, minimal performance, SVSG. Marlo doesn't show much. It's like a Bresson performance, seriously. Every eye movement, little head movement, means a great deal. Pacino is similarly restrained in The Godfather Part 2, too. His first scene with Michael? Omar sticking up Marlo? Marlo finding out Omar called him out by name? Marlo out of place with all the business people in the series' final episode? To see how great Hector is check out interviews of him and how he really talks and what's his demeanor like on Youtube like this one. Simon talks about Hector like he does Lance Reddick's performance. How long it took Lt. Daniels to crack a smile and loosen up. Stuff like that. Robert Chew (Prop Joe) cited Hector's Marlo as his favorite character in the series because he said it's all in Hector's eyes, and I agree. It's one of the greatest minimal performance I've ever seen. A performance I usually see in art films.

I love his scenes at the Co-op meetings, too. When he impatiently tells them all to shut the fuck up and get down to it.
LOL at Prop Joe's reply, too.

Season five is grrrreeeaaaat. How great is Haynes? Carver, too. Off the top, Royo, Haynes, Hector, Gilliam, Peters, Doman, and Reddick are, to me, the greatest performances. I hate to single them out because you still got a whole bunch left: Sandy McCree, Maestro Harrell, and on and on. Elba while still great has kind of slipped down in my eyes. Not as impressive as I thought it was. Wood Harris has moved up even though I have more problems with his performance than the other elite performances. I think Royo, Haynes, Peters, Doman, and Reddick are perfect and great performances. I think I like every single acting choice, every facial expression, etc. they made. Maybe. The Hector gems for me are the ones I cited previously in my response to SVSG. Remember the way he looked at the other gambler when he finally gave up his ring to Omar and said, "Wear it in health"? I never forget that glance towards the other man. And the scene when he explodes in lock-up. "My name is my name" is a fantastic delivery. Lesser actors would ruin it, maybe sound like late Pacino. Hector's delivery had a sense of anger and annoyance, but also a sort of pathetic desperation and frustration to it. Ruling the street, having his name ring out really meant a lot to dude. Brilliant. And all those years of him having restrained paid off in that one scene. He lost it.

What are your favorite pairs in the series? There are so many of them....
McNulty- Bunk, Carver - herc, omar-butchie, deAngelo-wallace, lester-prez, Avon-stringer, ziggy-nick, the girl-guy who do the nail-gun thing for marlo...
I like McNulty-Bunk the most. I also like Omar-butchie.
